Weed barrier & bark! I have two Laurel hedges.

First row planted in April 08 without membrane & bark, I just gave it some ordinary shrub fertilizer and it came up pretty quickly, now about 6-7ft tall and 3ft plus wide.

Second row was planted only last April, put down weed barrier and 3" of bark and its 4ft tall now and getting wider by the day. I will have it turned into a box hedge soon. I can't get over how quick it grew compared to the other row which now has bark & barrier.

So ordinary shrub pellets or that Westlands chicken manure pellets, sorry can't remember the real name, with membrane and bark will do the job.

I put Sulphur of Potash on mine and they are really starting to grow.
