Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Where to get equipment

    Hey all.

Joining an MMA club (done one class, enjoyed it a lot) but need to get a few bits of equipment; probably gumshield, rashguard and groin-guard.

Had a browse on Amazon there, gumshield seems to be the only easy choice, Opro seem good.

What would people recommend with regards the groin guard and rash guard though? Also is that all that's needed? Only going to be training for the time being at least, no plans to fight!

    Thanks :)

Opros a grand choice for gumshield.
For groin guard and rash guard just get a standard GG in any sports shop for now and if you stick with it id recommend the shock doctors ones that come with the compression shorts(very comfortable in comparison to the usual strap ones).
Dont bother spending lots on a rash guard, just get the ones in pennys for about 13 euro.Theyre not as well made and durable but theyll do you for the amount of training youll be doing for the time being

The XO athletic groin guards are cheap and very good quality

    Sandee MMA sparring gloves

Rogue sock style MMA shin pads

    Shock Doctor Gum shield

Don't bother buying cheap ****. Go for quality and it will last.

Cheers for that :) like I said in the OP though, I'm only starting and it's mainly for fitness levels and self defense, not so much for actual fighting, so i'd assume it wouldn't need to be top quality unless that changes?

Where would be a good place to get those though?

Thanks Maeve. Might well pop up one of the days or evenings and have a gander. Money is a wee bit tight right now though, so hopefully it won't be too expensive.

I wouldn't bother getting anything other than a cheap gumshield and groinguard to be honest. A few cheap shorts and t-shirts from Penny's will see you through a couple of months.
You've only had one class so you may yet discover that you only want to grapple, or only want to strike. Wait until you're sure before you spend a load on a hobby.

Clive is right, leave the more expensive stuff until you decide its for you.

34 euro will get you basic gumshield, wraps, groin guard and shin insteps!

Buy a gummy and box, Im sure the gym will let you borrow gloves and shins for a few sessions. No point buying that stuff until you know you're gonna stick at it.

I agree, gum shield and groin guard!

You can borrow gloves for a few sessions. Once you are really sure you like it and and are going to keep it up. Buy things bit by bit. Gloves one month, shin pads the next, rash guard etc maybe a gi further down the line if u decide to do BJJ. There is no rush, as your experience level wont warrent having full sparring gear for quite some time anyway.
