As the title says no dog isn't good at socialising with stranger or kids! She's one years old now and we've tried everything to stop her from barking at other people. Every time we let her out in the front garden- we have gates to stop her from getting out, whenever she sees anybody walking by she just barks constantly at them. We have tried everything, from going out to her, saying no in a firm voice and taking her in straight away. She knows she is bold and shouldn't have barked, but still does it every time ! She also hates other dogs! The usual barking at them, but when they come over to her she runs away like a scared chicken, continuing to bark !

Is there anything I can do !?:(

Did you ever bring her to training classes for socialisation?

Doing it at your house or the garden isnt the way to go about it as that is her home and she prob feels she has to protect it so you need to take ehr away from there to do it.

You need to get her to classes and make it fun for her so she associates strangers and other dogs with fun and enjoyment.

No I've never brought her to puppy training classes. She always barks when she's out in the front garden whenever she's out there, but when we bring her to the park, sometimes she barks and others she doesn't- which we then say good girl to her! She's a very stubborn dog!! She knows when's she's in trouble and when she's not! She will poo right in front of your face- even though she knows she has to go outside! But that's another thread I guess

You need to get her to classes where you have expert supervision and they know how to deal with your dog and how to introduce people and dogs to her so she accepts them.

This cannot be done in your garden by yourself so i would urge you to get her to classes asap before you end up with a very aggressive dog to people and other dogs. Shes still young enough to be able to do this.

+1 for classes. Our guy was very very shy after a dog snapped at him at about 3-4 months. He goes to daycare 2 days a week - at first he was shy there too but they took care of him and knew how to handle shy dogs. Now he's much more confident and loves saying hello and playing with other dogs. :pac:

In the front garden there are also territorial issues to consider. Dogs should meet on neutral ground as often as possible.

AndreaC is right im afraid... your dog needs socilaisation... but you need to start now, at one years of age she is developing all this learned behaviour, if you dont socialise her now it will lead to bigger problems...

Have you thought of the following:
    http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/home.php

she needs lots of interaction wth other dogs / their owners etc... ths will teach her its normal for other dogs / people to be around and not to be afraid of them... she more than likely is barking out of fear .

Do you have a back garden she can be let out into???

Now i dont mean to upset you but.... you say your dog is stuborn and she knows when she is bold etc.... plaese dont take this the wrong way but dogs dont think like that, your are humanising your dog... a dog knows AFTER its done something wrong due to your response / behaviour towards the dog... and its learns from that....honestly they do not poo directly infront of you to annoy you etc.... i'm afraid its lack of training etc.. :p

Yes dogs can be stuborn.... but not in the way of purposing going to the toilet infront of you just to be bold... a dog being stuborn is usually when they jump on the couch and try and avoid getting down etc, or pulling on the lead etc... but not going to the toilet...

I think training classes would seriously benefit your dog, and would help with training issues etc.

    Best of Luck

take the dog along to a dog show not for exhibition purposes but to get them used to socialising, they will be better for it.
