    has anyone noticed the taste change in knorr oxtail quick soup.:mad:

    I agree, the new taste is awful.

    Thought I had got a bad batch or something - obviously not.

    Because it had MSG which acts as a flavour enhancer and adds a fifth taste, called “umami”, which is best described as a savoury, broth-like or meaty taste.

    It has been hinted that the use of the additive msg may cause health side effects and some studies linking it to hyperactivity in children so due to adverse publicity and consumer concern there is a drive in the food industry to remove it from recipes. So your campaign to add it back into a product that children consume might not suceed!

    This article lists the other additives from the hyperactivity study that were found to have an affect.

    You could always write to Knorr and ask them to review the recipe again but MSG is so damn tasty and impossible to create a better flavour without it.

    Weird

    I bought a Knorr Oxtail cup a soup today for the first time in years and then I see this thread. Just plain weird.

    Not sure if I want it now.

    went to the shop today and was looking thru the cup soup range.had a read of the erin oxtail soup ingredients and i see they still have the msg in it. decided to sample it and its not bad. way better than the new knorr one. oxtail lovers try it,:o
    .
    p.s the knorr mushroom soup still has the msg in and its great:D

    add in 2 oxo cubes. 1beef stock and 1 veg stock as well as the oxtail. its super:D
