Disabled Driver - VRT Exemption.... can a second family member purchase a car ???

Hi,

I have a brother in a wheelchair and my parents have a vehicle which they bought new in 2007 which is converted for wheelchair use, electric lift etc and they availed of the VRT / VAT exemption for disabled passengers ........ Can a second family member purchase a new vehicle, get it converted to avail of the exemption on the VRT / VAT if the minimum 2 years duration period has passed ???

Can it be applied to Used vehicles from the UK ???

You can claim tax relief on :

A new vehicle
A used vehicle that has been purchased from an authorised dealer and that has not been previously registered in the state



Residency

A family member of a disabled passenger can also qualify for relief provided he/she is living with and responsible for the transport of the disabled person in question and has acquired the vehicle for that purpose.
