Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Retrieving Deleted Photo's from Camera

    Hi all
I posted earlier to say that my laptop was stolen last night. I am absolutley devastated as there are photos on it that I have deleted from the memory card on my camera. I think I remember hearing some time that it is possible to retrieve photos which have been deleted from a memory card. Does any one know anything about this or how I could go about it?
    Thanks :(:(:(

There are a number of software packages that can do this. I've used rescue pro before and found it great.

Thanks for the reply Paul W. How much is this to buy?
Will it get back every photo that was ever taken with that memory card in the camera?
    Thanks

I got it free with the last Sandisk memory card I bought.

No software can ever recover all images from a card, but it can recover images since the card was last formatted or since the card was last over-written.

    Thanks
In practice when would a memory card be overwritten/formatted?
    I haven't knowingly done this.........
    Thanks

There are two ways to empty a card - delete the images or format the card.

When deleted, they can sometimes be recovered.
When formatted, it is much harder to recover images.

When you use the card again (take new photos), it basically over-writes what was there before. So, you can generally only recover the last set of images that were on the card.

Oh right, I'd say I'll get feck all off it then. I downloaded all photos off the card in March and then started using it again :(

It's still worth a try, especially as there is free software available as mentioned above. You didn't say whether you only delete the photos or format the card.
I already have CardRecovery (€33.39). I just tried it now with my camera and I got 2774 photos going back almost a year. I save my pictures to the computer on the same day or within a few days of taking them and then I delete them from the camera. (I only delete them, I don't format the card).

I've used Recuva from Piriform quite successfully on a number of occasions recently. It's very good and completely free. It's from the same company that makes CCleaner - also excellent software, for cleaning up junk and temp files on your PC.

Basically if you want to get something back from a disk where the files have been deleted or the disk formatted don't write to the disk.

When the files are deleted they are unlinked but still exist on the disk. As data is written to the disk the unlinked files are literally overwritten, so the more the disk is written to the less stuff you will get back.

Overwritten stuff can be got back but only with more sophisticated (possibly hardware) analysis.

If nothing has been written to it since Photorec should get everything back for you.

I "deleted all" once but I never thought of any of this/software.

    @miss.piggy
Just read your other thread regarding the loss of your laptop etc - sorry for your misfortune.
I specialise in data recovery and in the circumstances would be more than happy to try to recover data from your memory card for free. If you want me to take look please PM me!
