Oh I've just thought of something, there's no Gaisce President's Award club, is there? I'm supposed to be going for Gold this year :/

I was just wondering if NUIM has a musical society, i.e. a club that stages or has an interest in musicals.

Could someone PM me the information if there is one?.

Yo, SU President here. The Drama Society put on a massive musical every year (last year was Fame: the Musical) and there's a college/town society called the Maynooth Community Players who do four or five shows a year.

There will be signs up for auditions for the musical in the first couple of weeks of term.

    Much Love,
    Aengus

Oh thank you! I'd be interested in trying out for it. Do you need to have experience though with acting and being on stage? Or can beginners like myself give it a shot?

Ah that sounds awesome, I didn't know the Drama soc did musicals, I thought it would literally be plays and suchness?

What time in the year would the musical be on, and any ideas as to what it might be!

I'm thinking drama soc could be a winner so. :D

The easiest way to describe it is a more tactical version of Paintball, except with pellet guns.

I'll try get all the stuff that needs sorting by the end of next week, and have it up and running by the middle of next month.

I will say, it can get expensive. A days skirmish with rental will cost around 50 quid (maybe less with large groups), but with your own kit and stuff, it'll go down to 25 ish. The problem is, your kit will set you back about 250 for a good starter package (gun, camo, boots, facemask).

And, it is seriously addictive. I started at Christmas, and since then, I have owned more then 15 different types of AEG's (Airsoft Electric Devices, the gun), more then 10 types of Pistols, have bought, sold and traded my way through the internet, have built up a fair few contacts in the Airsoft community that will happily lend a helping hand with this, and even set up my own website (IrishAirsoftSites.com, which I had no experience in before I had 20 quid in my paypal, and a weekend off).

When I have it up and running, I plan on having skirmishes (days out) once every 3 or 4 weeks (due to cost), and I can guarantee, it will be some of the best laughs you can have.

    Any other questions?

    Hi everyone,

If your looking for a society to join, why not consider the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) :). We are basically a society of charity, volunteering and having the craic. We run many activities each week from soup runs, extra support classes for 2nd level students and nursing home visits as well as events during the year such as the ever popular Fr Ted Themed 'Lovely Girls Competition' as well as many others. We are totally flexible to suit you and you can get involved as much or as litle as you like. See you on Clubs and Societies day (Fairs day) and Pastoral Groups day. :D:D:D

Will you be doing this again this year? I was quite disappointed in myself for not entering last year but I needed to learn how to make a cup of tea!

Maynooth Musical Society is based in the town Maynooth (rather than in the college) but anyone can join! We're doing Godspell, auditions starting tonight and running until Saturday. Girls national school, Maynooth.
    Audition Times:
    Thursday and Friday 1830-2030
    Saturday 1530-1730

Audition will involve singing a song of your choosing, acting a piece/monologue of your choosing and learning and dancing a short dance.

Please bring a SPARE copy of your chosen monolgue/script piece for the auditioning panel, particularly if you need us to read against you.

Reminder: Rehearsals will be Monday 6-8 and Thursday 7-930

I'm pretty sure it's a mix of all the techniques you can use to defend yourself in a situation. Not a fighting style.

They 'draw their inspiration' from Jiu-Jitsu and American Kenpo.

I was looking through the clubs and societies and I was wondering if there was any RPG or Roleplaying society..I'm not taking about anything sordid but the adventure, dice playing kind. I dont know enough about it to setup or run myself but I would be very interested. :)

RPGing is a big part of NUIM Games Society. We supply rooms most nights of the week for them, and have a well stocked library.

We do have a CCGs coordinator but not such if we do that game. Then again no harm in suggesting it to him anyway.

Ahh I see thats cool, I've always wanted to learn how to defend myself properly, because I have been in a situation before where it would be useful. Thanks for the info, I'm looking forward to this now.
