I got this laser off dealextreme back at the start of the year. Took 6 weeks for delivery but was well impressed with it for the price

I ordered a second one 3 months but it never came. :(
Do I have any come back or is it lost somewhere in the postal system.

    Maybe siezed.

You should not be able to buy such a thing without a "use licence".

Would I not have been contacted if it was seized?

Also, I know lasers are unrestricted in the U.K but can not find any info about Ireland. Are you saying that you know of a licence that must be obtained to own such a laser in Ireland?

    I have no idea:
    a) If there is a law
    b) If there is, about enforcement
    c) I'd have thought you would be told if siezed.

There should be a law. There no valid reason for most people to have such a device. It maybe can be covered by existing laws regarding hazardous equipment or weapons.

Bargain stores sell laser pointers too. Again, why? Even the cheap bargain store models can damage someone's eyesight (though you would have to stare into it for > 10s) or cause a motorist or cyclist to crash (more likely).

The two most likely scenarios are:
    1) They forgot to post it or think we are Australia. Have they charged you? Did you contact them?
    2) It's lost in Transit. Either accident or stolen.
    BUT
    You could be wrong.
The limit for Publicly available laser in UK may be 1mW. The one in your link is a very dangerous 100mW (brief < 1s exposure causes eye damage)

    UK
The 2005 Regulations maintain the general duty placed on producers and distributors to place on the market (or supply) only products that are safe in normal or reasonable foreseeable use. The principal responsibility for day-to-day enforcement of the Regulations lies with local authorities.

Laser Pointers more than 5mW (and possibly 1mW) are not at all safe in normal or reasonable foreseeable use.

Above Class 2 (limited to 1mW) should not be on sale to Public (Limit is on General sales to Public, not ownership!)
After seeking advice from NRPB (now the Radiation Protection Division of the HPA) the then Department of Trade and Industry urged Trading Standards Authorities to use their existing powers under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 4 to remove laser pointers of a Class higher than Class 2 (as defined in the British Standard) from the general market. Such devices are too powerful for general use as laser pointers and present an unacceptable risk in the hands of the consumer because they may cause eye injury in normal reasonably foreseeable use.

It's very likely the same Harmonised EU Health and Safety rules apply here in Ireland. Enforcement is another story.

i believe the limit in ireland is 5mW. it used to be 15mW before i think.. generally the handheld ones you can buy are 5. out foreign you can get 15 i have seen in a few places on holidays (spain, greece, etc)
its a possibility it was seized alright.. i doubt it though to be honest..

Most of the handheld ones are < 1mW
