Stupid Situation

So...have managed to get myself into a bit of a stupid situation as you may have guessed from the thread title. I have somehow managed to lock myself in my bedroom...the key broke when I went to lock it (yes I'm a ridiculously private person, I always lock it), seriously the thing just broke off and now the top part of the key is wedged in the lock with the bottom part broken clean off, ffs. No real panic, thankfully I had just come back from the loo, so will be fine for the night...but...THE SHAME..I live with my parents, not being one to make a fuss over things I haven't woken them up (1am in the morning, they wouldn't be happy) so will stay in my prison 'til morning, though my window does open wide enough for me to get out of (I think- never actually tried it before). I wouldn't really mind much but I wasn't remotely violent with the key, though god knows how old it and the lock are (the house is at least 50yrs old).

So...out of curiosity- I don't have the slightest clue about locks etc., really, will my da be able to just unscrew the thing and take the look out altogether? And hopefully open the door? And a new lock will definitely be needed yeah? They don't cost much do they???

Btw, obviously I know this is so ridiculously trivial but I like to stay up late and am bored out of my head:pac:

Unlikely to need the lock replaced, i'd imagine.
Probably be able to fish the broken bit out and there are probably copies of the key somewhere in the house.
