Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Disagree. I think they will be tough to beat in Holland. For Milan anyway, maybe not Madrid.
    You're going on reputation.

Suarez is a very good player, the likes of de Zeeuw and de Jong are decent players, but the squad gets fairly poor after that with an awful defence. Real Madrid will tear them apart and Milan should have more than enough to take at least 4 points from them.

Group G must the biggest collection of previous European Cup wins ever assembled in a CL group.:pac:

Kazan have a good chance of getting out of their group

Ajax are not very good these days.

they scored 106 league goals last season so can't be too bad, 19 european cups between those three in that group

I'm going on the basis they scored 106 goals in the Eredivisie last season and when I ha've watched them they have looked very impressive. The Suarez/El Hamdaoui partnership looks promising at this point and they have a top coach in Jol. I was dreading the thought of United winding up with them.

Whose black cat did Spurs skin? Group A and G will be fun! Easy enough for Chelsea and United.

Rubin will be delighted with that draw, they can beat Barcelona all over again :D

How do you explain their recent form in Europe?

They're still a young side. Eriksen is 18, Suarez is 23, Sulejmani is 21, Van Der Wiel is 22 etc. I think they have big potential and it's a pity they got such a tough draw. They can make a bigger impact than Twente did last season or will do this season imo.

I'm happy enough with United's draw, Rangers could be tricky if we don't concentrate, a bit like Celtic were a couple of years ago.
Valencia are a bit of an unknown as they've said goodbye to their two best players over the summer, and Buraspor could be a wild card. Turkey isn't a great place to be travelling to as we've discovered over the years.

Group G is nearly too good to be true, although I'd expect Real to stroll it in reality, with AC possibly limping over the line behind them.
Arsenal should qualify easily, but will probably make hard work of it.
Chelsea's only real problem will be travelling to Moscow.
As for Spurs, they could surprise eveyone and make it through although I'd fancy Inter and Bremen in that group.

    Glazers Out!

    Really?
Inter are the reigning champions and Werder Bremen have been around the CL block more than once, I wouldn't expect much from Twente but I'd wager Spurs would be happy with a Europa League place when it's all settled.

    Glazers Out!

Easy for who? If it's because there's a clear winner, then group G could be deemed easy also, as Real should have absolutely no trouble whatsoever.

The same Real who lost and drew to A.C Milan in the exact same competition last season, and lost both group[ ties against Juventus the year before that? You're deluded if you think they'll have no trouble whatsoever.

Barca's group is disappointing, it seems we alternate between group of death/ easiest group every season. I'd like to have had Spurs at least.

I think Spurs have a great chance of progressing. We are capable of 7 points from the 3 home games, so a few points on the road and we are in with a great shout. Twente are also capable of taking points from Werder and Inter.

No, actually, a different Real for previous season. You'd have noticed if you bothered to have a look.

I was merely saying that it's silly to say those groups could be labelled as being easy just because there's a clear favourite and I took group G as an example, because there is a clear favourite but you wouldn't call it easy.

Am happy enough with Uniteds draw.

Poor AC Milan! Must be sick of seeing Mourinho winning.

I think this is more of a 'Group of Death' in terms of how much more even the 2nd-4th teams are.

Group G's only noticeable for having the best Pot 2 team in there really - this 'X amount of European Cups' thing isn't really relevant for Ajax.

D has worse teams in it than B does.

B is abit open for my liking. Schalke prolly the toughest 3rd pot team. Still, confident enough Lyon will make it out of it.

Happy enough with our group Bremen are no slouches but we're here to test ourselves against the best which is what I hope we do a couple of signings and we could be in with a great shout of progressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

Really there are going to be few shocks and looking at the Group's it really is going to be a boring few months before the CL actually starts in the KO rounds. Obv the Real, AC, Ajax and Auxerre is the toughest group but really Auxerre are pretty poor and Ajax are no great shakes either but it has the biggest "names".

I wouldnt mind seeing it go back to a KO system based on seeds as they do in tennis to avoid the big guns clashing in the early rounds. These Group stages are just a money spinner and offer little in viewing quality.

Fair enough so, but I'd say it's more like 50/50 if you put the seeds head to head.

You could end up doing a lot better than a lot of people think you will.
At least you'll be in the competition, so even if it all goes pear shaped the money should be a nice cushion, plus I'd heavily fancy your lot to finish at least 3rd, so europe shouldn't be over for you by xmas.

    Glazers Out!

I thought they were the odds on a Spurs win in each fixture for a second!

Don't Andy Gray and Richard Keys have a handy gig: flown over to Monaco to provide about 5 minutes of waffle on the draw, followed no doubt by a night on the razz :pac:

Should be straight forward for the top teams in their groups. Fully expect all top 3 english teams to go through. Spurs could get through but a lot depends on home form. Real and Barca should have it handy. I'd say the same old faces in the knock out round so...and maby spurs.

Ajax could impress but their defence could let them down.
