Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I see Ian Dempsey quoted heavily in today's Star (so it must be true!?:D) having a good pop at 2FM, Tubbers, Hector and even Gaybo (ya wha Lenny?) yes Gaybo! Tubbers made reference to it on his show this morning too. Said he's disappointed that a nice guy like Ian would say such things. Good man Iano!! Stir it up!:pac:

I agree 100%. Ian is a really nice and genuine man and very in tune with his audience.

The Daily Star is quoting an interview Dempsey did with Hot Press. Fuss about nothing really....

I like the last bit "his desire to take over management at 2FM"... Now, wouldn't that be interesting!

Steady up lads and look around.

PR attempt to big up the rivalry.

    Don't be fooled lads.

    All contrived.

It sounds like he was misquoted.

Doesn't sound like him at all (and I'm not an Iano fan).

I am an Iano fan and, no, it's not his style at all. Hence I made the remark in the OP about it being in the Star so must be true!?

I'd say the full interview in Hot Press will be a bit more enlightening.

Don't get all broke up over it.

    that's how PR works...

    Wise up man.

Today FM have been running this story on their evening news bulletins!

They reckon 2FM came back with the response "It's Today FM who should be worried"

Many years ago, I was taking part in a contemporary Music Quiz. At the next table was a team which included Ian Dempsey, John Clarke and Larry Gogan. Don't ask!

My team of amateurs did not win - can you believe it??

Anyway, Ian used to have a chat with us at the end of each round and made a point of saying goodbye to us as we exitted out of the venue. I thought he was a very personable and friendly guy.

I cannot see Ian doing the dirt on another station. Interview taken out of context, methinks.

he is right with what he said , dont see what the problem is

I agree with what Ian said and I don't think it needs to be senationalised like it is in the Herald and Star...bloody August stories! This wouldn't get a look in if it wasn't August. And is definitely to Hotpresses advantage...they might shift more copies of the magazine.
Oh and I read the entire interview in the magazine.

But back to what Ian says, when Ryan took up the Radio 1 slot, he was sandwiched nicely between Morning Ireland and some listeners to MI, wouldn't be bothered changing stations so would continue listen to Ryan. Then he would also get people near the end tuning in who would be waiting for Pat Kenny. Now he has a decent following, a lot of these will probably follow him over to 2FM...others who couldn't be bothered changing station, will stay with John Murray. But, he is now opened up to a new audience...the old G Ryan gang and those who listen to 2FM breakfast (which may actually diminish now that Hector has the gig).

I don't see the interview as anything sensational just someone else in the industry giving their thoughts on RTE.

I'm so sick of non-stories being spun into controversy:mad:
The sooner the Dail gets back in session and gives the media some real stories to report on the better. This fake sensationalism is very lazy journalism and they are all at it. Instead of listening to the news on TodayFM Or newstalk these days I might as well have been reading the Star!

There's a little more going on here given that Dempseys quotes are lifted from an extensive interview in Hot Press. The timing is no coincidence with Nova going on air next week.

The big story however is Iano being the first serious broadcaster to question what's going on at 2fm. Anoraks have give the schedule the thumbs down all over the place for weeks but now an established broadcaster has joined in
