They are very good, but your postnatal visits are only free or available with a standard GP cant remember which. But the roselawn one will point you in the direction of a couple of good ones in the area and I believe she is a consultant Gynaecology too!

Dr Shorthall or Dr King in the Riverside in Mulhuddart are both female and both lovely! I'd been going to Dr King for years but had to see Dr Shortall recently as Dr King was away and would recommend both.

hi oblivious, why dont the meridian give free post natal care? it seems silly to start off a pregnancy with one doctor and then have to move to another when the baby is born.

I would also recommend Dr Shorthall in Riverside. She is lovely

Dr Marion Dyer in the Blanchardstown Centre Surgery is lovely, and her specialty is family/reproductive health IIRC. The surgery is at the Blue Entrance, above Subway & the post office

Dr. Suzanne Farrell in Huntstown in brilliant. I love this doctor, I was a petient with her for years until I moved away from the area. I started seeing her at around 18, the sister surgery in Castleknock was local to me and she sat there once a week so when I grew up I went to see her in Huntstown as I felt better with a female. She is one of the rare doctors who really will listen to you and spend time with you rather than try to rush through the appointment.

its because they are a fertility clinic an not a G.P. service,

I am a female GP who works in Dublin 15, but I am not going to make any recommendations because it would probably appear biased.
Just some info about maternity care:
Every pregnant woman is entitled to free antenatal care with a GP/maternity hospital. Visits which are not pregnancy-related (eg chest infections), are not covered.
The baby is entitled to a free 2 week and 6 week check with the GP. Unfortunately GP care for any other problems in the first six weeks is only free if the baby is entitled to a medical card. See the citizen's information website re maternity care for details.
The meridian clinic is a normal general practice, not specifically a fertility clinic. Nearby in Roselawn there is a more fertility-type clinic called Femplus.

I would avoid the Meridean Clinis if I were you.. very impersonal and you're seen by a different Doctor each time you visit from what I can see.. I attended there for the first few weeks of my last pregnancy (which I unfortunately lost) and I found I was just a number to them..

The 1st Lady Doctor I dealt with had very poor English and there was a huge communication barrier between us.. the second time I visited was to get a doctors cert for work as I had been up all night with constipation pains (sorry tmi) and the Doctor I dealt with (who owns the clinic) looked at me like I was a piece of sh1t and refused to give me a note for the whole day, told me I was fit to go to work in the afternoon.. total b1tch, I was exhausted :(

Anyway you're way better off with a smaller practice IMHO..

    Best of luck :)

    Hi there,

A small general practice will prob be your best bet.

Rita and crew in fem health are specialists in exaclty that, but as stated in a previous thread possibly a gen practice is more suitable for you.

From a womens perspecitve Parks medical and the new ??Oakwood / Oaklawn behind mogassins in Castleknock appear to be very good as well.

    Good luck in your search

Rita is very knowledgeable. I wouldn't trust anyone else.

Nicola Black and Nina Byrne in Oakwood are both excellent.

If you attend the Meridien for your pre-natal care, you won't see a doctor, but rather one of the nurses (usually the same one), which is probably not a bad thing, as the nurses (esp Michelle) are really lovely and much more personal than their doctors. I have to say I find the Meridien rather like a factory production line, and also, they only let you discuss one ailment / medical issue at each appointment. I voted with my feet and had my records transferred to Oakwood in Castleknock, even though Meridien in Ongar is only a few mins from my house.
