ye not a lover of them myself seeming as you have to pot tweek most of them just to read the game,s doc how are you doing the 9series at the mo just looking to see what,s my easy,st option

Was using those Xecuter boards, I had few wires soldered to them, but pads on them are very sensible, to expensive option. Got this and I'm happy, just two cuts to fix afterwards (I use solder, don't like this glue thingy).

OP, why spend money on an Express ExpressCard to PCMCIA adapter, and then a PCMIA SATA card & cable for something that may work.

Just get the VIA card we told you about, and massy was kind enough to link you to because it will work, without a doubt. You're only doing your drive, you don't need a mobile solution anyways. You were also looking to get this done cheap, and buying the VIA card is cheaper too.

Was i reading right and he said Hitachi if so he doesnt even need sata ports a sata to usb connector would be all he needs done it that way myself loads of times a few years ago.

Im leaning about jtaging and that sounds very cool lol ill want that eventually. So do I get a VIA card or a "sata to usb connector" like wotzgoingon said. Were trying for the cheapest and less chance of me f***ing up option here :)

A driverless VIA 6421a card does every drive perfect. Portio.sys which is part of jungleflasher will access the ports directly.

Go to jungleflasher.net get the tutorial and thoroughly read the Hitachi section. Do you know what version Hitachi it is?

Ebay works for a lot of people, what's the issue? Proper retailers are going to be costly, e.g. CK3.co.uk will sell you one for £9.99 + postage

Try using the supplied drivers with the card, and disregard PortIO.

Ok will do that now.

Ok still having issues but have also made progress.

I have downgraded to windows xp 32bit,
I have installed the drivers for the via card (the pc would spas up with the drive connected),
So I removed the drivers like it said in the pdf I got with JF.
JF can now see my sata card all the time.
When I plug the drive in I have to put a disk in to get the drive to spin up so JF can see it.

JF shows me my drive key and stuff.
When I go to dump the drive I get:

Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0046/0047 by Ram Upload Method over Port IO
UnLocked!
Ram Upload - Execute Failed

Any ideas?

Have you put the drive in Vendor Mode?

• Registered Users Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

yeah i have sent b mode.
The drives responds to the open and close commands from JF and it takes 2 presses of the open/close button to open the drive and stuff.

In that case, do you want to try XP drivers (vendor drivers, not the windows ones) for your card instead of PortIO?

I did try using the vendor drivers I got with the card but windows keep freezing when the drive was connected and it slowed down alot. Also xp never installed its own drives for the card so the vendor ones were the only option.

This is what the tutorial told me to do:

Every time I connect my drive to my VIA card my PC slows down or freezes

Try reading the tutorial………….! Remove your drivers for the card!
Instructions for how to do it properly are
HERE. OR in the less likely event
that you have already correctly removed the drivers from the card and it
still freezes
try moving your card into another PCI slot! (You may be
required to reinstall drivers then remove using same method as before)

I'm just saying, tutorials arn't always gospel...as seen here. When the OP removed the PortIO driver & used a vendor one it worked straight away.

Just use Dosflasher...you'll be finished in ten minutes.

• Registered Users Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

Yeah ur right. I have got dosflash and it says:

MTK Vendor intro failed on port 0xDD60.

It then asks do i wan to keep sending the command, i click yes, nothin happens but says

sending MTK Vendor to port 0cDD60 status 0xD1

Sounds like Dosflaher can't see the drive properly. Maybe try a different PCI slot?
