What are you supposed to do to make sure you have no trouble down the line eg take an inventory? take photos? anything else? do you need to do this if the house seems in good nick(apart from1 or 2 things) and the landlord seems ok?

Alaway take an inventory if one does not come with the property - if one does then double check it.

Make sure you take some photo's - carpets are the more important because that is where most disputes come from.

Most landlords seem OK when you just move in - that can change when you give notice and they have to go to the trouble of finding a new tenant.
