Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Danny Mitchell ~ Ready For Nelson; Cage Contender 6 Main Event
    Written by Martin Smith

With less than a week to go before the Cage Contender promotion returns with another great card, Martin Smith of MMA Spot caught up with one half of the main event to talk about a fight that is being touted as one of the biggest in Europe this year.

Danny Mitchell versus Gunnar Nelson is a fight that would not look out of place on any card throughout the world. Mitchell, currently sitting on a record of 8-1, is a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is the Ultimate Force European champion, a two-time Prizefighter boxing British champion and a two-time Total Combat British champion. His opponent this weekend is Icelandic star Gunnar Nelson, who famously defeated heavyweight Jeff Monson in a grappling match, despite giving up over 100 pounds to the American. Nelson also holds two gold medals from the IBJJF Pan American Championships in 2009 and is a BJJ black belt under Renzo Gracie. The fight is expected to be a cracker.

Mitchell, who trains at The Asylum, and Manvers Fight Factory, with the likes of Ian Jones, Wayne Murrie and Neil Wain, is keen to admit that he is in the best condition of his life. That is due to a strict strength program that has seen him smash several of his personal bests for weight lifting while improving his cardio.

Icelandic Star Gunnar Nelson Talks Cage Contender 6 Main Event
With one of the biggest fights in Europe taking place in Altrincham, England this weekend, our reporter Martin Smith caught up with Icelandic star Gunnar Nelson to talk about his fight with fellow highly-regarded prospect, U.K. welterweight Danny Mitchell.

Gunnar Nelson's name is one that is emerging as one of the most frequently mentioned amongst mixed martial arts fans. The fast rising Icelandic star already holds several IBJJF gold medals in his collection, a grappling win over Jeff Monson, and was awarded a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from Renzo Gracie in only three-and-a-half years. It is an impressive list of accomplishments for the 22-year-old, who already has the ability to trouble some of the most established welterweights in the world. With the fight against Danny Mitchell just around the corner, Nelson admits that he has spent much of his preparation in his native country.

Cage Contender 6 Promoter John Ferguson Ready For Big Weekend
With the weekend fast approaching towards the Cage Contender 6 event in Altrincham, England, we caught up with fight promoter John Ferguson to talk about the fights on the card and the main event that seems to be catching the eye of many international fight fans.
Fight fans in Europe are in for a treat this weekend, when two of the continents fastest rising welterweight stars collide in the cage. Danny Mitchell (8-1) takes on Gunnar Nelson (6-0-1) in a battle that is already expected to rival some of the fight of the year contenders in the award stakes. Nelson, who holds two gold medals from the IBJFF Pan American Championships in 2009, goes into the fight as an underdog against his more experienced counterpart. Mitchell has picked up wins against M-1 Team England welterweight Simon Phillips, as well as Cage Rage veterans Jordan James and Lee Doski.
“Preparation for this one has been the same as any other Cage Contender,” says promoter John Ferguson. “We’ve had a few more problems this time because it’s a new market, but we’ve battled through it and we are now coming out the other side. Ticket sales are going strong and it’s really starting to work." [/quote]
