Despite having loved AC2, this didn't really register on my radar until about a week or two ago - mostly because I wasn't sure whether it was multiplayer add-on or cheap cash-in or what - but three hours in I'm glad to say it's everything I could have hoped for.

I'm exactly the same. Completely ignored this game as a cheap cash in. What an awesome surprise. I'm really loving the multiplayer too. I never play multiplayer at all, the usual FPS style just doesn't appeal to me multiplayer. I've got all the CODs but only ever play their single player campaigns - but I've really got into this game's MP, it's different and unique, with a whole new pace and feel.

I may give the MP a go then. I generally have no interest.

On sequence 8 now, but plan to get Rome to 100%, finish all side missions and get my last two sync points before moving on. Fantastic game, if a bit shorter than AC2, but I am loving it.

A handy tip for the beginning of the game when you're trying to scrounge enough money to buy a few properties - loot the bodies of Borgia captains!
Loving it so far, there's just so much to see and do!

    Pretty cool video of a flying glitch here which really shows off the scale of Rome;

At the start when you're playing Desmond in the cave, did anyone else zone out and think they were playing Uncharted? :D

Guys I am ****ing gutted, just got a game-breaking glitch, and it looks like I'm not the only one http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4721051016/m/5381025298

If you don't want it to happen to you, don't turn your console off when you're in 2012.

13 hours in, I'm not restarting.

Bought this game fully intending to get fed up of it and trade it in as fast as I could.

    But... it's a bit alright isn't it?

All done with the main story, just need to find 3 or 4 feathers and a couple of side quests. After the feathers in AC2, I don't know if I can stomach finding another 82 flags. Then onto some MP!

Anyone else experiencing pauses while running around

I'd say he was crying before recording that :D

That is a bit of a disaster, and once or twice the game has frozen on me and I've had to turn it off and on again (thank Minerva for Autosave!).

Ah you can buy some maps to help in finding them, not as bad as flag hunting in the first AC *shudders*

Speaking of that section - did anyone else think there was a bit of a dig at Enslaved? When they're wondering how to get to a high ridge and Desmond sort of jokingly says something like "I could throw you up and you could grab it?" and she says "terrible idea".

You know you're hooked on a game when you fire it up for a quick blast before work when you're already running late:p

Finished the main story last night. Brilliant. Absolutely loved this game, and definitely put more than 15 hours in even though I didn't do a lot of the side missions and stuff.

Still only on sequence 4 or 5. There's just so much to do, I can't seem to make progress! Busy with my assassin guild at the moment, got about 5 of them up to level 5/6. The called em by accident in the middle of a riot in an assassination mission and they all got killed, sickened! Love that side of it tho, great addition.

Did anyone get 100% sync on the 'rescue princess from a castle level? You are spose t opick her up and walk out undetected but there are guards in the hall and I can't see how to sneak past! I only tried it once but looks impossible.

    Such a great game!

If it's the mission I think it is, you can put her down and go forward slightly (can't go too far away from her). Then, you can kill guards without being detected, go back, pick her up, go forward another bit, put her down and repeat. I got discovered by the very first guy though, my own fault

    Some thoughts:

First of all, I spent pretty much all of Sunday playing this game having spent a couple of hours on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Story: It works, won't win a Pulitzer or anything, but it feeds the game very well.

Rome: Amazing. Huge and also very diverse. The level design is top notch as the city just flows as with previous Assassins Creed games, so a big thumbs up to the level designers once again.

Combat: Loving the improvements made in this. The kill streak is a fantastic addition and it really does fell like you're a highly trained fighter with skills way above the level of simple army grunts. As Sarky said above, there's nothing quite as satisfying as walking away from what's bound to be a grave digger's nightmare when there're 20 more soldiers bodies to be disposed of (I'm not a psychopath, honest).

Missions: I like the idea of "complete the mission this way for 100% synchronisation" but it's driving me in-fracking-sane to be spotted by some guard that just spawned and having to start 20 minutes of delicate hide and seek climbing around again.
I got completely lost for about 10 minutes when going to rescue Sforza from the Castle and nearly demolished my entire flat in RAGE when some prick of a guard suddenly appeared as I was just about to drop her down the hole in the floor into haystack. Similarly when doing the Leonardo "Bomber" mission, I was cheap-shot'd by a suddenly spawning guard tower which shot me as I was just chasing the Borgia Captain on horse-back and it left me absolutely no way to avoid it happening. Damned if I was gonna spend another 20 minutes getting to that stage again for 100%.
I need a sound proof and possibly padded room for playing more of this game I think...

Your Assassin Team: The mechanics for this system work extremely well - you're not wasting time micro managing these boyos, there are lots of places to send a carrier pigeon from and it more or less looks after itself. I've already for 3 of my 8 assassins on level 8. Also, Arrow Storm is awesome :D So much better than an airstrike in something like Modern Blops :p

Glitches: I've noticed too many for my liking. I am in fear that my save game is corrupt as it is - there are still 3 areas of the map locked off to me and for the first time
I went to do Leonardo missions, they were appearing in inaccessible areas - took a game restart to make them appear somewhere I could access them
. I will most likely break something or someone if I find that I've sunk 15 hours into this game only to have to delete the save file and start again. That said, I don't know do they consider that someone like me is going to give the game a full 10 hours non stop in their beta testing...

For the record, I'm just after finishing sequence 5 - was it the same for everyone else who's reached this stage? The 3 Borgia towers from the right of the map (1 o'clock position), looping down and around to the bottom (5 o'clock position) are inaccessible at this stage? If it's broken, I think I'm going to cry :(

Also, on a glitch front, I fell through the level when trying to loot a body that was slipping off the edge of a roof and landed in some water under the city, but couldn't get out until I eventually quit back out to "the real world" and read some emails.

Multiplayer: I only played one game to give it a look and found it quite interesting. I'm looking forward to giving it a proper go with some friends (XBox tag is Shiminay if anyone fancies adding) as I think there's an opportunity for a very different multiplayer experience than your average game.

Aaahhh thanks Paddy! Ya, I picked her up and walked to door way, guy looking straight at me!

Kharn, ya I found the same places locked off.

Went to take down a Borgia tower but was blocked off. Was only when I rebuilt the Mercanaries guild, they gave a mission to kill the Borgia leader.

So, some places are blocked off if they are used in specific missions later, is my guess.

I don't like when to get 100 sync in the Romulus levels, you have to do it in a certain time. I like exploring those places but such an addictive feature to play back through it to get 100 sync!

PS. Are Christina the secret Sync missions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,801 ✭✭✭✭Penn

With regards the inaccessible areas, mine was the same. Right and bottom of the map are unlocked in later sequences. Probably to prevent you building up your brotherhood too quickly.

Levelling up your brotherhood is really addictive. The amount of times I'd send them all off on missions before quitting, but then deciding to keep playing til they all got back was unreal. And I actually did feel a little sad when one team never returned from their mission. I never sent any off without at least an 80% chance of success, but in one go, 4 assassins gone, including two level 7s and a level 6.

But before the last few missions, I got them all to Assassin Level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,568 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

I generally don't send any of my assassins off unless there is 100% chance of success. Not interested in losing level 8/9 assassins at this stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,801 ✭✭✭✭Penn

After that, I was the same (well, 95-100%). When I had to stet recruiting new assassins, I generally sent them off on missions with my top assassins to level them up to 4 or 5 in one go, so it's not that difficult if you do lose some

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,568 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

True. Something I would like is more variety in weapons for the assassins. I've none levelled up all the way yet but every assassin having an axe at full skill points is a bit crappy, should have the option for some of them being long rangers with crossbows etc, some brutes with axes/maces and some with swords.

Yeah. I noticed that on the screen where you can level up your assassin or change their colour, you can't change their weapons. I also would have liked if the missions you send them on had relevance to the main story. Like you need a certain mission completed to get information for your next story mission.

You guys don't know how relieved I am to hear that about the inaccessible map sections :D

As for the Assassin Team, I think if they'd made it any more complicated, it'd have cluttered up the main game. I do think there's scope to make a more macro game based on commanding groups of assassins just like that though - possibly a web browser game would work as a bit of a build up to whenever AC3 comes out. You control a cell in a city and are up against the local Templars to take control etc - could work quite well.

I too wished the Assassin team had more depth, chance to make specialists. Hopefully Ubisoft will bring out some kind of cheap download game thats a more expanded version that fills in the gaps between this and the next game.

Having main story missions be reliant on completing Assassin team missions would be a bad move if your team gets wiped on one mission and you have to train up another team to complete it just so Ezio knows which house is the right one or something. Would really break the flow of the game and have the potential to send Kharn into another shouty fit of rage :p
