Ah, the humble cowbell... Used so often in rock during the 70s and 80s. Cheesy perhaps (Def Leppard anyone?!) and used in quite a different way by RATM later on. Definitely a main focus in Pigs by Pink Floyd. Featured on 9/14 tracks on Appetite for Destruction. The cowbell really adds that something special to a song imo, my faves are Mississippi Queen, Calling Doctor Love and Don't Fear the Reaper. I like to collect cowbell songs and always point out when I hear one in a song... :o

What do you think of the cowbell? Is it's presence missed today? Was it over or under used? Post your cowbell faves!

But really, I like the cowbell in songs, adds a nice twist to the drum line.

Versus the tambourine. A love triangle of instrumental percussiveness.

Even those smart-arse urbane sophisticates Steely Dan deployed the cow-bell on Do it Again, okay it was when they were young and foolish but nonetheless..

As long as the cowbell's part of the drum kit it's alright. When the singer's hitting it, now that's a different story!

Triangle?! Pffff triangle has no place in METAAAL! Rapture cowbell too funky for me.. I like it sporadic. Not surprised by Pantera, they know the score! Now, MOAR cowbell! :D
