The new season finally get under way with new boys and favourites for the drop Hercules taking on the the men from the Basque region. Bilbao can count on their two World cup winners whilst all of Hercules summer signings are still not fit enough to participate. The first of the big sides see's Los Che travel to Malaga in a game that will attract much interest as everyone is anxious to see how this Valencia side will do without former star men Silva and Villa. The club still have massive financial problems but have brought in several new arrivals over the summer the most notable of which is former Real Madrid man Roberto Soldado who they will be without for the opener. Unai Emery believes his side can once again qualify for the Champions league though has admitted it will be a bigger ask this time around. The opening day ends with the so far disappointing Rojiblancos heading to Valencia to face newly promoted Levante. Alvarez side must get over their recent Supercopa and Champions league disappointments if they are to do well and get their season off to a good start.

On to Saturday and the first of the big two are in action as the champions travel north to El Sardinero followed by Real Madrid travelling to the islands to take on Laudrups Mallorca. Nothing really to write about the big two as anyone that follows la liga should know the score. Depor welcome Zaragoza to the Riazor, Almeria take on Osasuna and the yellow submarine are heading to San Sebastian. The other Saturday game see's Getafe travel to Barcelona to take on Espanyol and could potentially be the game of the weekend. Bit disappointing this one aint on sky but streams will be available.

Monday nights game will see the newly crowned Uefa Supercup champions take on Gijon on the banks of the Manzanares in what will be the capitals first taste of la liga this season. Expecting big things from Atleti this year but then again the same is said every year. A lot of peoples favourites for that third spot along with Sevilla and they have added some real quality. On paper this Atleti side is frightening and they should do well but knowing Atleti they could well make a dogs dinner of it.

Llorente off the mark this season, I hope he can improve on his 23 goals (all Comp) from last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    Malaga lineup:
Arnau, Jesús Gámez, Iván González, Weligton, Manu Torres, Sandro Silva, Fernando, Eliseu, Quincy, Sebas Fernández, Rondón

    Valencia lineup:
César, Miguel, Ricardo Costa, David Navarro, Mathieu, Albelda, Banega, Joaquín, Vicente, Mata, Aduriz

Thats nice from Los Che - plenty of talent still at the club and even Pablo on the bench is a bit of a surprise.

Fernando Llorente scored the opening goal of the season which turned out to be enough to secure the points.

Some comical offside play in that game.

Poor aul Hercules - they have a horrible few opening fixtures - Barca, Sevilla and Valencia all on the way.

Poor sods could be on their way back to la segunda sooner than they thought.

What a ball that was from Joaquín into Mata. If only he has finished it off, it would have been a lovely goal. Absolutely submlime pass from Joaquín.

Oh how I've missed la liga. Fantastic football being played here. Valencia have probably been the most intelligent team in the transfer market, making loads of smart buys. Quite like Utd replacing Robaldo with A. Valencia! Malaga playing some lovely ball too.

Joaquin to fullfil his potential this season ?

It would be about time in fairness.

My line-up came from Eurosport, sorry it was wrong.

Fabiano and Kanoute were deservedly dropped after their embarassing performance against Braga.

Nice start for Athletic, even though it was only against Hercules, i'm expecting good things this season from Susaeta, looks like a good one so he does.

I knew it. Barca will struggle if Pep keeps this delusion up.

Lineup swap - Iniesta for Pedro apparently.

I still dont understand why Pique is on the bench.

Catalan press saying its a surprise - wonder has he picked up an injury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

Espanyol held on for a 3-1 win though they were struggling towards the end.

Colunga was unlucky in the 86th to see his effort come back off the post and into the arms of a grateful Alvarez.

Datolo sealed the points in the 94th min with a nice break against the run.

Both Michel and Pochettino have much work to do.

Let's hope for a few goals here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

Puyol has been injured in the warm up and is replaced by Pique.

Not sure how serious as yet.

Xavi off for Pedro start of the second half.
