This Castledermot High Cross - has been out in the Irish weather for 1200 years- it's holding up pretty well.

But it hasn't been out in the weather for 1200 years. The original is in the National Museum, Dublin. Don't know when it was moved.

The cross on the site was made, afaik, by OPW craftspeople, from artificial materials and from a cast of the original. Same applies to Clonmacnoise and many ancient high crosses.

Still a nice picture.

I'm glad to hear that- I was always afraid of vandalism.

Thes two in Castledermot certainly look a lot better than the 'fake ones' in Clonmacnoise:)

But are you sure the 2 High Crosses in Castledermot are not the originals?
I can find no reference to them being replicas?
