Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OMLTs- an option for the DF in Afghanistan?

    and couldn't help but think that it could be a very positive contribution for the DF to make in Afghanistan.

    Now, I accept that the govt will not deploy any more DF than are already in Afghan, but as a theoretical prospect, what's the general consensus?

    Do you think our overseas experience and national temperament would make the DF very suitable trainers for the ANA?

    That man has a very good book too,its mentioned in the Books thread. He's not afraid to get stuck in either.

    Not sure about the PDF but isnt there talk of the AGS sending over numbers to train the ANP?

    OLMT and half a dozen other 'non-combat' roles in Afghanistan would be within the IA skillset, within the established types of roles that IA units traditionally undertake on UN/EU PK missions, would benefit the Afghans, and would benefit the IA in ensuring it isn't dulled by a period of 'barracks-bound' inactivity.

    it looks like a 'win-win' solution, but the traditional fear of controversy that permiates the Irish body politic can be relied on to ensure that Irish foreign and defence policy remains fixed on what plays well at the Ard Fheis and ensures there's money for parish-pump politics, rather than what's good for the vital national interests of the state or indeed whats good for a poor, war torn nation a long way away...

    sadly, it'll never happen.
