You do realize having leaked that information, Ronald McDonald has probably been contacted in his space palace which orbits the earth disguised as a research facility?

    Your in trouble there.

Think I was in my 20s before I realised that Gherkins were not a vegetable invented by farmer Ronald McDonald.

They are F**king awesome . . I can eat them on their own .. Eat them on a burger (with a bit of mustard and loads of ketchup). . I love them in a sandwich with Ham, cheese, onion, tomatoe (and whatever other sh*t i can squeeze in!). .

This thread makes me happy . . . Good Job OP, good job sir . .

There is no type of food that I don't like - basically, you can make any food taste nice if it's cooked or served properly.

The one exception I would make to this is squid ink, which is rank.

On my dogs birthdays the both get cheese burgers from McDs

They scoff them down but always manage to leave the gherkins . Like a magic trick

That's funny - on my birthday, I eat two of my dogs with cheese.

    ***BREAKING NEWS***

There has been a sudden upsurge in the sale of gherkins at various supermarkets and many now find their shelves empty of the tasty little fellows. Other products seen to be bought with the gherkins included burgers, ketchup, and mustard. Stocks of these products are also said to be dangerously low.

    Signing off Gherk MacGherky

    I ♥ u!!!

I always knew it wasn't a gherkin inside those burgers, everyone always told me it was but I knew better!!

So ends a 10 year long question that was grating on my mind everytime I
happened to think about them burgers. I never thought to check this out
using the magic of internetz until now!

BTW: A Dill Pickle is NOT a cucumber.
The gherkin is a fruit similar in form and nutritional value to a cucumber.
Gherkins and cucumbers belong to the same species (Cucumis sativus),
    but are different cultivar groups.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gherkin

EDIT: Uh-oh, maybe I'm confused!!!! BUT THEY DON'T TASTE THE SAME!!!! :(:(

Using a cucumber-regular was never the same as a macdonalds burger, they were NEVER the same :(

    /cries...

Everytime I get a subway I ask for "A ton of gherkins"...
they give me the smallest amount ever.

    "More Please"
    "More"
    "more"
"What the **** are you laughing at I said more!"
    "More"

    "thanks bitch"

McDonalds is an american company; Gherkins are a varierty of cucumber, when you buy a jar of pickled Gherkins, you will notice a herb floating in the bottom of the Jar, that is Dill (gives the flavour to the pickle). Over here in Ireland we call it by its proper name "Gherkin."

Has anyone ever found a gherkin that tastes exactly like the macdonalds one?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,744 ✭✭✭Táck

use to hate them, now i usually have a jar in the fridge full of them! bought ones the other day, by accident, bread and butter flavour and thought they were god awful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,659 ✭✭✭Devil08

How can you flavour a gherkin with bread and butter? you sure it wasnt just bread and butter you were eating?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,659 ✭✭✭Devil08

    @sponsoredwalk
no one said they tasted like cucumbers! no one mentioned cucumbers! They are of the same family as a cucumber, brothers and sisters if you like, but they taste very different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

You can get a cucumber pickle that is unbelievably good, the only problem is that when I open the jar I eat all of it, yummy - goes to press and gets out pickle and olives...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

Fucking no! I can't stand them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,297 ✭✭✭Jaxxy

Yuck! I pick them off my burger. Unless I'm drunk, then I usually don't care what I'm eating and everything tastes good.

Used to hate them but now I eat them straight from the jar!

I heard last night that they go great with vodka!

Have a shot of vodka then eat anything pickeled and you won't feel the harsh hot hit of the vodka. Just the flavour. Awesome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,659 ✭✭✭Devil08

Do you think they might start doing this in bars now? a bit like Tequila with Salt and Lemon? You will now get a shot of Vodka and a slice of gherkin
