    Bertie can't nominate himself.

    The people's champion!

In all seriousness though, Norris is definitely getting my vote he's a great politician as well as a great representative for the new Ireland.

Perhaps if Louis Walsh (a distingushed Irishman) will not stand himself , perhaps he could organise an X-factor style event - it might even pay for itself instead of a costly election.

Seamus Heaney perhaps, add to a long european history of poet presidents.

Would todays Ireland really vote en mass for Norris?

I think so. There would be some bogger resistance, but they don't count.

Indeed, once Dublin and the cities carry Norris, what those in Laois/Offaly and other FF strongholds think won't matter a jot.

And rightfully so. We had the same 'would Ireland be mature enough for a female president' debate back when Robinson rang and the urban sophisitcats won out.

It would be a nice symbolic up yours to the regressive Ireland that would object to him. Join us in the 21st century or be dragged into it.

    Austin Currie represented Dublin West.
Brian Lenihan moved from Roscommon-Leitrim to Dublin West
Mary Robinson though from Mayo served time on Dublin city council.

Wow, three candidates and all politicians in Dublin.
Hope for a better representation in 2011, so away with your bogger comments

Alas he appears to have lost his battle with the booze and is in no state to represent anyone.

You are aware of his opinion of the 1916 men?
We still think Guinness is an irish institution, they fired anyone involved with the rising.

Considering it was their fault Dublin had lost precious infrastructure, you can understand why.
