Donnybrook Fair have a planning application lodged for a restaurant over their shop at Grattan Park, is there a recession or is it cheaper to eat out ?

well, Jade Royal used to have big "20% off" signs in their windows, now they have "10% off" signs - the recession must be coming to an end...

The Café at DF's original store (in, er, Donnybrook) is supposed to be excellent, so it could be a good addition to the town.

I think we should be congratulating Paul for his business skills.

He took a concept and made it a great success.

It was always planned to extend, as Paul bought the house next to the car park at the same time.

aye - its a pub planned for the ground floor only, seating outside, no food served:

The Burnaby are objecting on the basis of there being no parking and no smoking area other than the footpath at the front. All 3 objectors are claiming that the application is part of a plan to eventually expand the pub into adjacent unit on the basis that the existing unit is too small. Personally I think Greystones would be better off with a few small pubs rather than the soulless barns that currently exist, though someone opening a new, small pub these days is pretty rare.

ffs! pub + driving = not the best argument these days. can you believe the pettiness! As for the no smoking area, Bels are doing it on the pavment to the front, I don't see any difference here. The only question is if they can legally serve the achohol to you while you sit outside - I'm just putting my thinking cap on and this could be a potential issue (or should I not point it out?) Or everything could be in order!

yeah, the objections were somewhat weak - there are plenty of town\city-centre pubs around the country with no parking and no outdoor space.

No doubt that the "B" empire are looking at ways to bring their objections to An Bord Pleanala.
It would be nice to see a new pub in the actual town.

Ok, it's fairly obvious that the only pub on the mainstreet objects - its in their interests. The only legitimate objection would be from a resident who has concerns but some dude from Goatstown is objecting...he must have a business interest locally - perhaps one of the other publicans? Let's not name names.

Wow this thread is going off-topic - that's your fault Merrilady!

no - that requirement was abolished several years ago when the licensing hours were reformed.

You have hit the nail on the head, he actually owns a pub premises but has it leased out.

3 Pubs in Greystones is more than enough...

Someone build a new cinema, that would be more entertaining.

    3 objectors
The "regular" people who object to any new pub/restaurant looking for a licence/planning in Greystones.
We live in a democracy I suppose.
