Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have just got a cannondale MTB at the right price.

    But the shock needs serviced.

Is there any bike shops that are able to do it in Ireland?

Not certain, but I couldn't find one and just ended up sending mine (Headshok super fatty dl) off to Thumbprint tuning in UK, then part of the pan-european eighty aid group franchise (and they did a fairly mediocre job - The lockout is damaged again, less than a year later).

Evans UK also service 'em at their central workshop afaik. It's also possible to self-service them, which is what I'll probably do as soon as my shiny new road bike arrives in the post.

    i found this.

Mine is a different shock, but the major parts are the same.

Its parts that I need to source now. the bottom bearing is shot completely. oil leaking , no air in it and clanks around.

I was thinking of changing to a lefty but all the reviews I seen say that my fatty ultra si is better than most forks out there. And lighter. torn a bit.
I believe that bearing could be sourced at any bearing shop in dublin.

The lefty is a better fork but the problem is you are limited to hubs on your wheel. Go to cycleways in parnell street and they will send the fork away for you, i got mine sent away last year to eighty aid and the fork still runs smooth (have fatty)

I'll have to ask my brother as he took the bike in and paid. I think it was around 2 weeks but not 100% sure. i'll ask him and see.

You might find what you need on http://www.cannondale-parts.de

Eighty Aid has a standard pricing, depending on what's wrong with it. I suspect that Cycleways would charge the same plus postage there'n'back. Eighty Aids price list here. I see that they now do UPS pickup to Germany.

Turnaround time depends on the time of year. Mine took three weeks in total and cost €90+40ish P&P to reshim and reseal it.

It takes 1-2 weeks to service the fork and can cost between €50-€140 and I think the postage back is extra as it has to go to France.

might be cheaper to change to a second hand lefty or different fatty shock.

Im bursting to hit the trails with her.

    I paid 340 for this http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/77/59426277.html
and was hoping to have a cracking bike .

Even if it cost another 100 to get right, I think I will still be on par with a good bike at the right money.

XT hubs and mavic wheel, XT crank and rings, and XT hydro brakes and derailers. Someone has upgraded lots of stuff on her already

Was I robbed? what do yas think... this fork could have the better of me.

    Hey,

OC Tunning are Fox Specialist but I imagine there isn't much they don't know about servicing suspension and the like

    Their details are HERE

Were you robbed? Maybe, maybe not; It depends on what else is wrong with it (besides the fork) and how much it costs to get it fixed up. Some people just toss the knackered forks and replace them with non-cannondale aftermarket parts (fox, rockshox or rigids) using a reducer.

the rest of the bike is fine. few minor things like pedals and jockey wheel for the derailer.

Where does one source the adaptor.

The big advantage of this bike is its weight. Its really light. Unless i spent a few hundred on set of Fox shocks im going to lose the weight advantage. I think??

Rather that fixing the Fatty ultra , I was looking at second hand lefty forks on ebay.

I think fixing the old shock would cost the same as a second hand lefty.

    My question is.

If I go ahead with the conversion. Is it a straight forward swap.? Will the lefty just slip into the place that the fatty ultra once was. ??

Is it going to be a pain in the ass to do? I dont really want to spend more than 150 euro on this. So having to pay cannondale a fortune for adapters would be disappointing

You'll need to check the sizes and angles out of whatever lefty you want to stick on it to make sure it doesn't interfere with the geometry (or so I read, and it makes sense). You'd also need a new hub if I'm not mistaken.

There are lots of reducers around; They sell them in the usual online shops. I don't know enough about it to say more than there are good and bad ones, but I'm sure you'll find someone on some forum who replaced the fork on the same bike frame as yours.

Whatever you do, it'll cost you some.

FYI, my headshok is more or less the same design as yours. It had exactly the same problems; Flat as a pancake, no lockout and oil leakage. It just needed new shims and gaskets. I sent it off to Eighty Aid at the time because I knew it wasn't a big deal - I hadn't really used it off road - but I didn't want to fork out for more tools, which is only cost effective if you're keeping the fork longer term or servicing them for others.

these guys in the UK will service headshok
    http://www.thumbprinttuning.co.uk/flash_tony_nunn.html

i wanted to get mine overhauled there but due to the forks age they would not accept it. will have to send off to eighty aid

They used to be part of Eighty Aid, but it looks like they've dropped/been dropped off the list. In any case, they serviced my shock a year ago and they did a crappy job, as I mentioned earlier. Got the fork back with vice marks and black oily smudges (It was clean when I sent it in) and a damaged boot... and it doesn't work, one year on after a total of only two weeks in the mountains. Really can't recommend them - Send directly to their HQ in Germany.

I have spent the evening reading on cannondale tech forums on how to rebuild them. I have a few damaged parts but I am confident that I could spend a Saturday fixing the old one. I will.

But have my heart set on a lefty now. They just look soooo cool:D

I have resigned to the fact that the bike will not be on the trails anytime soon so I will use the waiting time( for bits) to rebuild clean and replace any bit that could improve it.
I recon I have a good bike to build on and should last me a long time.

or maybe I should have just bought a cheaper working bike:o

I Have a Cannondale F700 with a fatty and it is by far my favourite bike. It is very light compared to others (weighed the frame) the cannondale rides like a dream on the trails and climbs like a goat. The bike is amazing and you got a great deal on the bike. Cannondale are a more expensive bike than others but I find that they put a lot of effort into the frame and no matter what you crash into that frame won't break on you (trust me someone crashed into me and dented the tubing and the bike is still perfect).

People have had problems with the fatty leaking and needing service. I think you should either go and get it serviced by eighty aid (it wont cost too much) or you go and source out a Lefty.

The Lefty is an amazing fork, extremely stiff and most likely the lightest fork you can get. You can even by a multi tool that sits in your headset for easy storage. The only downside of owning a Lefty is the fact that you need to change your Hub on your wheel.

    finished(nearly)

she has had new wheel bearings, brake pads, brake fluid this week.

Got the second hand lefty last night. The damping on it does not work very well, I think it may need new seals.

I also need new jockey wheels.
