I am going to france for a week - I have an unlocked E585 and want to use it over there, other than that I will only use it for a day per month when in ireland so dont want a contract.
What would be the best provider to get for this?

I'd suggest using a Vodafone prepay sim (one for voice) which allows you to use 50MB on the live.vodafone.com APN for 99c per day home and abroad.

You can discount three it WON'T work.
    Roaming with 3Pay Broadband
Just like home you can use your daily, weekly or monthly add ons without any additional roaming charges. Just buy a top up voucher at an Irish 3 store or 3 top up retailer and then visit My Three to buy a daily, weekly, or monthly add ons.
    Accesible Networks on 3Pay Broadband.
    3UK, 3Italy, 3Sweden, 3Denmark, 3Austria, 3Hong Kong.

    France doesn't get a mention.
