Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You forgot the part where the dinnerladies gather round watching, laughing and cheering until the teachers come outside, where they start blowing their whistles.

Yeah, well, maybe if Johnny, Mark, Robbie and Billy had the police called on them earlier they wouldn't have been held back in school for forty years.

1980s-was beaten with wooden rod at 5yrs old for running around the table when a parent called in to talk to the teacher. Older brother of 12yrs runs away for 5 days due to the thumps he and his fellow classmates recieved from their teacher.
Teacher goes on to become principal and my family moves house and we change school.
Older brother has still got 'issues' to this day.

2010-Teacher even contemplates violence as a punishment and is up to their eyeballs in sh&t and legal proceedings.
Teacher is fired and child recieves therapy for any trauma.

    hmmm...;)

Yes. Those hypothetical situations you've imagined certainly prove to you that you are right in believing 'political-correctness has gone mad' and rules are ruining society.

Edit: read the last few properly and can now only assume that this is satirical.

Time for my own (slanted) take on this, just to prove how idiotic the original post is.

1970 - A black child joins the class and is subjected to constant harassment by the completely white student and staff population. Teachers take the liberty of making occasional snide remarks about his race.

2010 - A black child joins the class and makes friends within a day. He is doted on by his teacher, who is a single white mother in her mid-20s.

1970 - Michelle misbehaves in class and is severely beaten by a headmaster with a disturbing lust for discipline.

2010 - The headmaster is arrested and put on trial for child abuse.

1970 - Johnny is raped by his school's chaplain and lives the rest of his life with psychological trauma, never seeing justice as the priest dies and the church systematically covers it up with help from the state.

2010 - Johnny is raped by his school's chaplain. The priest is sentenced to 30 years in prison and his reputation destroyed forever. The case becomes a vitriolic subject among the population, who spit his name with the most utter contempt and disgust.

1970 - God exists. If you do not believe in God, you will go to hell. If you renounce Him, enjoy your expulsion and disownment.

2010 - Some people believe in a god, and some don't. You can listen to this religion stuff if you want, but it's your choice. You might only be a child, but you can be a sceptic and an atheist and there are plenty of people who will support you if you don't believe in the supernatural. The Catholic Church, once unofficial rulers of Ireland, is crippled, and no longer controls children's minds.

You know what? A black child in Ireland in 1970 would have been almost a novelty - they would have met with less discrimination that they would nowadays I'd say.

And an even more odd thing about that, remember reading once (honestly not too sure on the source) but alot of slave trading with the blacks (meant descriptively not racially) went through and was based in Ireland...

I always thought it was mad in Blazing Saddles when they said "No Irish" and a load of black people got flustered...

Just realised all these scenarious seem distinclty American and very unlikely to happen in Britain, let alone Ireland, despite the references to British institutions. A lazy case of find/replace, methinks, and an even lazier post from the OP.

Unfortunately, the 1970 version still exists in many schools, perhaps minus the part about going to hell. We're a long way off this lovely 2010 version.

Sure look how hard it is for non-catholic children to get into primary schools which aren't secular ffs.

If you long for the school life of the 1950s perhaps

    head for mississipi: http://gawker.com/5623138/middle-school-segregates-class-elections-by-race
Thinking about running for eighth grade class president at Mississippi's Nettleton Middle School? Are you white? Because only white kids can run for president. Black kids can be vice-president, though! But only black kids.

1970: Go to school, get into college, become a structural engineer.

2010: Go to schoo, get into college, become a structural engineer, rob a bank and go to Fox River Prison...

    Its so ****...

Theres something wrong with kids today that makes them think if they get into a fight, its to the death.

If you get into a fight with someone, you throw a few digs and the better man wins. Shake hands and **** off.
Not show up the next day and stick a knife in him. What does that actually prove?

The amount of times I've seen people exchange words outside a pub and then theres a knife pointed at them.
    What is the actual point?
