Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. maybe its the cynic in me-but the VDV deal coming to light a few minutes before the deadline closes seems a nice way of Sky keeping viewers tuned in.

Yeah, people getting a bit too excited about it! He's very average. Think it's because transfer deadline day was so boring people want to get excited about something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,135 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Spuds would make ya laugh some times VDV was the best thing ever when ya thought ya had him and then when it looked like it wasn't going to happen all of a sudden he's a shît Modric.

Hes a good player, but hes just a less good version of Modric.

Madrid ruined him. If he gets back to the form he had pre-madrid then he'll be a great player for Spurs and better than Modric. He is a legend among the HSV support even though he only played 3 seasons at the club.

Spurs were very close to completing signing by all accounts

I was under the impression a large chunk of Hamburg fans hated him after the stunt he pulled with Valencia?

Spurs waiting for ratification from the Premier League before announcing the £8 million signing of VDV

At the time he got some hate but it blew over. He had a great season after that up till his injury, ran his arse off most games and scored like 15 goals.
People still dislike him but the majority consider him a legend. Still see 100's of VdV jerseys over there at games.

I'm not Van Der Vaart's biggest fan, but even I can't find any problems with an £8 million deal. Fantastic value.

Hah, that's a great deal. Now Gyan's price does look kinda stoopid...

Good transfer hopefully he will improve us greatly he was meant to be going to bayern for 18m but deal fell through.

    I wouldn't say he is under-rated. He's a good player. Well worth £8 Million.

This transfer has to go ahead, we can not end Deadline day in disapointment. VDV not been performing that great recently but at £8 million he is well worth a try and could prove key to Spurs retaining 4th spot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Worse major transfer window ever, if Man City were not moneybags the total turnover this summer would less than 300 million. If that sounds like a lot two years ago over 1.1 billion was turned over buying and selling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Odats

Shows the Premier League teams aren't money bags for ridiculous transfer fees anymore and could be down to the credit crunch having it's affects on lending facilities for transfer fees and players wages. I wouldn't be surprised if a Premiership team goes into receivership before the end of the season .

So you mean Marcus Bent to Wolves was not your ideal transfer choice. I do not think too many Sunderland, Stoke or Birmingham fans will be agreeing with you about this being a dreadful transfer window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Van der Vaart is a great signing for Spurs, especially for £8 million!

Even though I've never seen Bebe play, I'd imagine Fergie would have been better off adding an extra million to the transfer and going for VDV! He could be one of the best players in the league this year IMO.

By the way, what happened to Cole joining Liverpool?? When I left the house today I though it was virtually a done deal..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

Hopefully vdv will be able to score goals itsthe one place modric falls down he will work well in a 5 man midfield it hasn't gone through officially though but hopefully it will.

Question is, would Sunderland prefer VDV for 8 million and a striker for 5 million.

    Or 13m for Gyan.

Ignoring that VDV would never join Sunderland?

Sunderland never, ever, had a chance of getting VdV.

    Ever.

    6 new players at Stoke?!

Did they just realise this is the last day or what?

That many players could back fire by unsettling the team.

London is a major factor. No one wants to go up North unless
    A) It's Man Utd
    b) They're offered bundles of cash by Man City

Something I forgot about that, that twitter just reminded me..

"If you're leaving R Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down - that's Man Utd" Van der Vaart ten days ago :P

I don't think the most fervent of Spurs fans would think they were a step up tbh.
