Brought my loot back to Boots and got a cash refund (As they always have a 3 for 3 offer on... so you cannot get the stuff in boots! They took the boots points off my card... but didn't get me to return the shaving gel and after shave balm i bought with the two €7.50 vouhers they gave me at time i purchased colgate stuff :-) )

They give a fully itemised receipt in Lidl... and mine came to €14.73

Mine came to €14.31 in Dunnes, also with fully itemised receipt as I mentioned in my post above.

Bought in Tescos earlier today thinking I'd just have to ask for a handwritten receipt detailing the individual products - girl at the customer service desk told me there was nothing they could do as everything was computerised. She did, however tell me I could bring them back for a refund if they were not suitable for the offer.

Drove round the corner and bought everything in Lidl for less money (14.73 as opposed to 15.40) then quick trip back to return my tesco purchases :)

Should be sorted now Lidl receipt itemised goods as:

    Colgate Mouthwash
    Colgate Total & Whit
    Colgate 360 toothb
    Colgate 360 toothb

Possible problem with the mouthwash not being itemised as 'Plax' - Guess if colgate want to apply the letter of the law on this offer they'll get away with a large proportion of the payouts - though maybe goodwill etc may suffice - or maybe that's naive . . .

A friend of mine works as a graphic designer and lately he's been doing lots of work for Dentists, something he's never done before. Apparently they're being hit by trips up north and overseas..

Giving a free clean is a useful way to get you in the door only to find you need to come back for additional work..

You can always go somewhere else after of course

Just back from the dentist. Bought my colgate stuff in Supervalue, came to €18something, itemised receipt. I'm not sure if the 15 minute walk to Lidl would have been worth saving €4 :P

Asked in the dentist, and they said the medical card entitles you to one free checkup, one free extraction and two free fillings per year. I never notice the difference after a clean/polish so I'm just going to get a yearly checkup from now on.

I've been to my dentist twice in the last week! and have two more visits before the end of the month :( So my free dental care is used up.

So while I'm in the chair going to get this "scale & polish". Getting root canal next week, which will need a scale & polish afterwards IMHO. dead nerve in the tooth means its always slightly off colour to the rest of them, it seems to stain easier, but oh my god...when I get a polish done....my teeth are WHITE...and I'll have plenty of new toothbrushes to keep them that way for as long as possible.

So will definitely be running off to get my Colgate supplies. Even tho I don't use Colgate my self.

Wonder does it cover scale & polish by dental hygienist tho....my dentist practice has a specialist for all that kinda stuff...medical card doesn't cover her...so will colgate?

I did this in SQ Kilkenny - big display advertising it etc

but the receipt just lists toothpaste etc - not the detail

so do i ave to bring back for refund ?

their website is odd, one "contact us " goes nowhere and another asks you to pick Republic of Ireland but then brings you back to UK site

I spoke to Colgate today, and they said the same to me as they said to another poster. Put a note with it of agent's name, time & date I spoke to them, and it will go through ok.

The blurb from Colgate says €65 is the amount because it is the average price for a scale and polish but my wife just got charged €80 last month in Malahide. What prices have people been quoted for a scale and polish?

Are dental hygienists better to go to for a S & P? Some work mates have recommended one and said she's very thorough but it's a bit pricey.

groom - the hygenist seems to do a lot more work than the dentist, it's a full 30minute cleaning, they seem to do more on gums and interdental cleaning. €70 seems to be the hygienist price around d6, I'm looking for cheaper. my dentist charges €50 for scale and polish but he recommends the extra 20quid for the hygienist in his practise.

I'm still looking for a cheaper hygienist though.

Do you think a visit to dental hygienist would be covered ??

Probably a bit of a naive question but I assume all dentists out there are members of the Irish dental association and hence the offer can be availed of by going to any dentist?

Anyone got any definite answers to either of these? Pity there's no talk to Colgate forum :o

Dental association website gives the impression that they represent every single dentist in the country, but just in case, to find IDA dentist in your area try here:

    http://www.dentist.ie/locator/index.jsp

Not sure about the hygienist question, suppose it depends on whether it is specified on your receipt? Rang my dentist surgery this morning to book appt for this offer and they seemed to know all about it so maybe ask them when you book?

Got all the items in Lidl today, with itemised receipt, for €14.73 and getting a €50 scale and polish next month Great Bargain Alert - thanks OP for giving us the heads-up on this one!!

I got receipt from Lidl yesterday, rang a few dentist in Navan area, none of them aware of Colgate promotion. I rang the Colgate helpline 0818 444 849 then, I was told it has to be participated dentist, but she couldn't tell me who are the participated dentist in my living area. I then tried a few more dentists in Navan, Kells area, same no one knows about Colgate promotion.

I questioned girl on the helpline, she said even though all the dentists I rang are with Irish Dentist Association, only the participated dentist would use this offer, because she is only a helpline, so she hasn't have the name list of participated dentist.

    Any idea?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

The T&Cs don't say anything about a participating dentist - where did you get this idea?
Just that it has to be a dentist that you choose in the Republic.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 xileer

I know what is in the term & cond, but just in case, I rang the Colgate helpline, then I was told it has to be participated dentists.

Smiles Dental have a big poster up with the promo so they must be a 'participating dentist'. . . they have branches dotted around.

My dentist informed me about the promotion a few days ago
He also said that you couldnt buy the items in tescos or boots
    as they wouldnt be accepted..
great deal tbh but some strict t&c

Nothing in T&C's about where you can buy, and they are quite explicit about everything else so don't see why they would have rule like this without putting in T&C's - maybe people have been refused cos they got the products in Multi-save or promotions in tesco or boots? Or maybe cos receipts from Tesco aren't specifying the products?
About the helpline saying it has to be a participating dentist, but she has no list in front of her - the literature says that you can have the appt with any member of the dental association, so if your dentist is a member then he is a "participating" dentist. Even if he hasn't heard of the promotion it won't matter as he gets paid as normal - by you - and only has to issue receipt as normal to allow you claim your money back.

Boots always have 3 for 2 on the dental stuff I was told, so thats why you can't buy in boots. Tesco also have offer at the min.

The T&C's on the colgate site don't say anything about a specific dentist "preferred dentist" is the term used.

I thought i remembered reading somewhere that the dentist had to be part of the IDA but can't see it on the colgate site anywhere!

I can't see how the dentist you use could have any effect on the offer.... you pay the dentist, get a receipt; Colgate refund you up to their limit. The dentist (to me) would seem to have no involvement apart from doing their job?

I got the whole pack from my dentist as in the colgate pack it was €17. They gave me the forum to fill in to send to colgate and when i went for the dental clean I just attached my receipt to that and sent it off in the post!! cant go wrong with it like getting €65 back isn't too bad at all:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭bungaro79

you can go to boots or tesco or any place that has an offer but you just have to buy the 4 items at full price. kinda confusing but i rang up the helpline and said to the lady i was talking to that i bought 6 items in boots (so 4 at full price and 2 free). she said that as long as the 4 items at full price were what was listed on the offer then you're fine. still only cost about €16 for all 6!

That's not what the T&Cs say. I suggest you ask for that advice from the helpline in writing.

•This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion. Products bought at discounted rates, buy one get one free or similar deals will not qualify.

I get my scale and polish in smiles www.smiles.ie, it is done by a DENTIST not a hygienist, they take at least 30 mins doing it and it's the best clean I ever had and it's noe down to €50 euro for scale and polish. Getting it done by a dentist in my experience of hygienist and dentist cleaning, dentist is far superior, and smiles far superior to all other dentists Ive visited for scale and polish.

how much does a scale and polish normally cost?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 hill1

I was at my dentist in cork, to get a filling repaired and a scale and polish, and was told about the offer, dentist was selling the colgate stuff for 15 euro and post dated the receipt to the day before. so I was able to avail of the offer, got the work done got the two receipts, got the form and everything in the dentist.
total bill 80 euro. This includes the colgate products.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭magmay

seems to be a big difference in prices of these colgate products judging from the thread. I paid e17.59 in supervalu kilkenny this am,could easily have gone to Lidl 18% cheaper. Receipt does not state brand of toothbrush, I phoned helpline as suggested and they said @e4.99 is it within price range and will go through ok.

Tried to get this last night in supervalu killester! All out of mouthwash and toothbrushes! Damn them.

FYI TODAY is the last day that you can buy the colgate products to avail of this offer.

EDIT: Didnt see the 7th page in this thread :o

I got the products last week but hadn't gotten around to booking a dentist appointment yet, and thought it was too late.
How long is that side of it open for then?

•Participants must have their check up or scale and polish at their preferred dentist in the Republic Of Ireland no later than 30th November 2010 and retain their dentists receipt clearly detailing the check up or scale and polish treatment and the amount paid

Good luck with trying to find the products without a special offer. I tried earlier: Boots sell them 3 for 2, Dunnes have something similar or maybe 2 for 1 on the toothbrushes, Lidl has a special offer on the mouthwash, and Tesco (Jervis) don't have the toothbrushes.

Bought all this stuff in Tesco this evening..Came to about 15.59..Stayed away from for for 1 offers..

Think its mentioned somewhere in the thread above, some people have phoned the helpline and been told its ok to put the name of the agent you spoke to on the receipt - might work!?
