Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

God, miss a day or two on here and the world nearly changes!! Last time I was on things were still a bit doom and gloom, now there is an air of excitement!!

Congrats to all with high placings, and chin up all who think they're out. Like others have said to get to this stage out of 1000's is great.

Can someone please send me the number to call tomorrow and let the reality kick in. Going to be well down the placings with my AC score going by the results so far, but hey for my first time am happy to have got this far.

Now I'll know what to expect next time.

Cheers to whoever can send me the number.

Well I'm ecstatic with my score, between 1 and 200. The Pope is a close friend of mine. Vetting Ongoing.

gigity, if you don't mind me asking, what was your ac score??

    - scrap that gigity - I already know!

OK got it confirmed with a three digit number, I will be planning for the next (whenever that maybe) recruitment.

    AC 50
    Merit 930-940
    RC
    Vetting ongoing
    No medical

That's not going anywhere but down as an experience, but first time I know I can improve now I know what to expect.

Can any of you number crunchers workout the odds of 750 people being non RC for me, lol.

Will be about here for a wee while yet, been fun and thanks for any help you have posted on any matter. Good luck to all of you who are a step closer to your dream. I think I hear the big lady warming her throat up, but will keep the ear plugs just encase there is some miracle and some of you have been put on Santa's Naughty list in the past.

Just thinking guess I hold the lowest posted position now, well at least I have a title for my efforts.

    Pink_182 number sent to you

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Perhaps your the only one with the balls to post it though?

I'd say, given you have recieved vetting forms already, your chances are good enough - better than mine and several others on here with a higher merit placing.

Would any of you mathematicians out there like to hazard an attempt at how many RCs have scored above the 365-375 bracket in the merit placings by your reckoning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13 cr41g

Just got my merit, between 345-355. Was wandering what the chances are being a NRC and getting any further, all the women on the phone could tell me was there was a freeze and they had no idea. Thanks

Hard to say even for both sides

How many RC/NRC are above you
Many People in list are vetted and cleared
    Drop outs

    Such a long wait, nightmare.

Well I know which one I'll be receiving :( To be honest though it would'nt really bother me at all now getting the dear john, my merit score was a big enough kick in my proverbial nuts...I'm over the failure bit and onto the learning from it bit! It would just be telling me what I already know.
I take it we don't really know just how many people roughly get the dear johns and how many they keep hanging in there?
I agree plugin...less of a proverbial for me though:(.I havent phoned for my merit score as I know I dont have a cat in hells chance with background.

I made a statement when I found out my score in which I said that I wish those who have scored highly all the best.I hope this has not been taken the wrong way.I wish all potententially successful applicants all the best :)

On a wee side note,I am sort of glad not to be around the 400-500 merit number as it would be especially hard to take the wait considering the freeze.Has anyone ever heard of anyone missing out by one place or two?....now that would be a kick in the jangles!

Sure rub it in a bit cesc77, I'm 440s on the list.....

So if they will be writing to all candidates in the next couple of weeks, what will they be saying? All the same message or a coupld of different ones?

Another question is, if they send dear johns now, do they send them to people who may be high enough when 50/50 wasn't applied, and if so, what exactly does the dear john say?

As I mentioned in another thread I think I know what these letters are about , there are 3 options in them -
    1) Your application is progressing
    2) Your application is not progressing , to my knowledge they do not specify the actual reason but we know it is because that persons Merit score is so low as to offer no realistic chance of appointment.
    3) Yes , there is a third option and that is something along the lines of that it is not currently possible to tell if that candidate will progress and a decision will be made later - vague I know.

Perhaps some of the people here who got these letters in the past would care to share their experiences ?

I don't know for a fact if 50/50 features in who gets the Dear John's but I suspect it does.

I suppose it reall depends on how many they expect to appoint, but having recieved no vetting forms and being in the 440s I', expecting the Dear John.

Hey i was just wondering who you phoned to see where your placed and how you work out your scores? Any help would be great thanks!:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Fingers Crossed

Having received the Dear John in the previous 2 campaigns the letter basically says something along the lines of - While you have scored high enough to make it to merit list you have not scored highly enough to be offered a place in training.

I also know someone who received a letter last year to say that they were not sure if they were going to be offered a position but they would be informed before end Sept 2010 (which I assume is when campaign 15 officially ends and 16 begins)

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

    What was your merit placing?

What I am wondering about is - if someone recieves a dear john, and subsequently someone who scored less is appointed due to 50/50, do they get a letter that explicitly says they were rejected because of 50/50?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Fingers Crossed

merit placing 500's and late 300's in C15 and once you receive a dear john thats it you are out not to be contacted again and strange thing was received vetting forms first time and none last year!!! so work that one out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

So last year, if you were in the 300's, and 440 were apptd, you should have received a letter saying that you were not offered a place becaue of your background, no?

Also was it straight after the merit placings were given out?

What was your AC score last year?

Can't remember if letter was before or after merit list but definately received it before end of Sept and no regarding 50/50 in fact received the same letter both times.
not sure exact AC but mid 50's

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

That is strange. If anyone who scored less than you was appointed you should have been given a letter ref 50/50.

Also, my friend scored 54 and is NRC, he got in and just finished in GV around March 2010

Never really thought about them telling you you're being turned down on the basis of 50/50, but now that I think about it in my mind if that is the case they really should be. But then again they can't even really do that because if they are sending them out within the next couple of weeks then no calls will have been made yet, so they couldn't know if somone with a lower merit would be getting a call over you...obviously no calls will be being made for the foreseeable future with the freeze, but you get my point!

Merit placing 895 - 905, AC score 50. Well good luck to everyone up there, guess I can go back to eating junk and all again now . I was in for an admin job as well and got got a Dear John today for that too, gutted. Well done those who get through, think I'll try to make friends with the pope, who said having friends in the right places don't get you anywhere? :D

I have never heard of anyone getting a letter that explicitly stated they were not sucessful due to 50/50 operating.
Has anyone ever heard of such correspondence ?

Don't think they would state that.

For legal reasons they would be unwise to say 'sorry your not getting the job due to your religion'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭Bubbles34

I have never heard of anyone getting a letter like that, (but I can see why they might). It is already in the public domain the number of NRC's who are displaced each campaign due to 50:50. I do think they try to make 50:50 as transparent as possible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

But if you get a dear john stating you did not score well enough to progress, yet someone with a lower score does not get the same letter due to 50:50, than the reason being given for your application not being progressed is factually incorrect.

Surely if 50:50 was the reason, the should have to tell you, because giaing any other reason is a lie, no?

I see where you're coming from but it is kinda 'splitting hairs' , is it not ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Well I just think that you should be given the full reason for your application not being progressed. Would you not prefer to be given a full, open and transparent reason?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 42 mouser1

wanadrum i can see your point but any job i have ever went for and gotten a dear john, it normaaly doesnt give a reason. just the old " good luck in your search for future employment".

  • Registered Users Posts: 66 ✭✭sharan

Jsut spoke with a helpful lady, computers were down this morning.

I have got my merit number and it is a horrific 1100's anybody know what this would mean??

Im a RC but dont think itll make much difference!

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Well your vetting is ongoing which is more than can be said for a lot of people, so I wouldn't give up hope just yet if I were you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 159 ✭✭fefe5

Well having tried about 10times to get through, I have eventually found out my merit score is in the top 80. Well chuffed with that one! Would be bouncing around right now if it was not for a certain freeze :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Well done, that's a great placing!

I wouldn't worry too much about the freeze - i don't think it will last too long.

What is your optimism based on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Well I just think that there will be plenty of natural wastage and the current threat demands that numbers are kept up in my opinion.

Merit place between 360-380 with an AC score of 56. Don't think that will be good enough, being a non RC. Does anyone know roughly what the lowest placed non RCs have been to get a place in previous campaigns? Fingers, toes and everything else crossed.

Same here exactly same scores as you, did you receive vetting forms? i asked the lady but she said no one had requested them yet :(

    not looking to hopeful.

Does anyone know how many positions are going to be available?

And can someone please pm me the merit list hotline number, the more I read this forum the more shattered my nerves become. So I have decided that its better knowing than not.

    Thanks in advance.

Previous campaigns have been for 440 places but given probable budget cuts it would be unwise to assume that is the number going this time - we'll have to wait and see....
    Will PM you the number.

In a nutshell, yes... Although if your RC maybe not. Take me for example, 840's, NRC, not a chance :(
It's basically like your place in the queue based on how you scored compared to everybody else ...that's how I look at it anyways!
