Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For those wanting an accurate time: try the old tried and tested method of a stopwatch, push start when you cross the start line and again when crossing the finish line :pac:

Are you joining us? Can you pace a 22min 5km as well as a 2hr half?:D

No, sorry. We've decided that you're in no condition to run tomorrow, you have to go home and tidy your room instead.

Good luck kids, might take a spin down on t'bike tomorrow to cheer you on/shout abuse. Though, I might not, staying in bed seems a viable option too.

Looks like a great day for a race. Just finished brekkie. Better get my ass in gear and head down to registration. Good luck to all. :)

Fagan won 2 seconds inside the old record. Joe Sweeney 2nd and John Travers 3rd (Nat. junior record). Not sure about the women, i saw wlodarczyk and annette kealy coming in around 16/17 mins but they were in 3rd or 4th in the womens. Monoscemo broke 20 mins. Beautiful morning for it.

I heard Fagan broke it officially by 3 seconds and Mary Cullen won the Womens race.
Yeah 19:46 by my watch, delighted with that. I was pacing to go just sub 20 and was pretty comfortable. But I passed a group I had been chasing all race with about 600m to go and ended up working hard to keep them off me in the finishing straight.

Lovely morning, beautiful for running and the tops they gave us are fanatastic.

Lovely day for it, very still, bit of warmth in the sun but not so much you'd overheat, good turnout too.

22.40 for me, about what I expected. I must do some speedwork after the marathon because I could have continued at that pace for another mile or two but my legs didn't want to go faster.

Oh to be able to run like Martin Fagan, hes a class act. First time doing this, great race and the tops are first class. Heres to next year.

really enjoyed this race, 27.57 so very pleased with that. weather was excellent and the loop was nice too. I think 5k is my favourite distance, I will have to work at getting the time town

Great race this morning, organisation, weather all perfect. Might have a PB as well. My watch, rounding up, gives me 19:14 which is 2 secs inside my 5k PB for this race two years ago. 19:30 last year for this race so I'm very happy with this mornings run.

Great race and great course for it, didn't go as fast as I would have liked in the end but besides my running everything was top class.

The compression top was worth it alone :)

Great race this morning, the weather was perfect! My garmin time was 24:06 which I am delighted with. Was aiming for sub 25. PB for me.
The compression top is lovely, it's great to get something useful - hate those goodie bags! :)

I'm wearing the top already!!....I ran 21:09 which is a PB by 03:36....Agree with raycun, it's a different game doing the shorter distances...I was breathing pretty heavily coming up by Terenure College, my legs just aren't used to moving that quickly! Very happy with the organisation (seperate desk for pre reg. number pick up, excellent Marshalls etc.) v. nice compression top and a lovely sunny morning :)

My first ever race and I loved it, a very nice day for it to boot!

Ran 26.11, where I was expecting to be in or around 29 to 30 - so Im over the moon [that said, in the last kilometer there I was dead on my feet and the end could not come fast enough!] :)

I ran in or around 22.54
Delighted- pb by well over 2 min
Was dying though after running first mile in 6.50 something so all in all delighted- thought I wa going to puke around 3 km in. Only got into my stride really at the end when I was probably running closer to a pace that I've spent the summer running at.
Its really amazing the difference in running a fast short race and a long slow one- maybe i amn't suited to running short after all.
Good to see some fellow boardsies- Menoscemo and Aimann (and I think Gerard 65) and have a chat

yeah, I'm not liking the short distance races atall. Would it be wierd to say I enjoyed the half more than this mornings race!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,418 ✭✭✭Aimman

Got a PB at 22:13, but was hoping for a bit better. Think the long distances aren't helping the speed. need to do a bit more speed work and tempo etc after the DCM training.

Mind you, had a nice session in the Carlise Club afterwards with some quality Sauna and Jacuzzi time at the end.

Apart from the Boardsies, there were less familiar faces at the 5k then I'd see at the longer distances. I felt like a camel lining up in a greyhound sprint race. :D (and I'm not refering to size wise. I mean distance vs speed)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,724 ✭✭✭kennyb3

21 second PB for me, although only one previous 5k - ran 19.19. Watching MF go past in his warm up was amazing - like a cheetah

Ta, not as weird as the way you spell wierd:D......Maybe you're just more suited to further distance and the rhythm you can get into....Personally I found it tough but that's because all my training has been distance orientated as I guess yours has!

I'd have the exact same preference for a half over a 5k. Nothing weird about that, I just don't like the puke-guts-up feeling of a 5k.

Just wanted to say thanks to any of the organisers if they are on here! Great race, great day, very well organised.

Ran my first ever 5k today after only starting to run 3 months ago. Ran a 37:45 which is faster than I thought I could do given that I'm a 46yo "never really exercised before" slightly overweight female:D

Am in awe of those who can run a sub-25, not sure I'll ever be able to, but I am so proud of me today coz I won "my" race!

Roll on the next one :-)

I finished 17th in my class...! Unbelieveable times for some of the guys and girls older than me 50+.A real inspiration for a relative newbie like me to keep at it! Does anyone else think Martin Fagan looks like Fernando Torres ?

Well done - Rathfarnham is a great choice for your first 5k :)

Don't lose hope of a sub-25 either, I did this race as my first a couple of years ago and finished with a 30+ time, then ran sub-25 just over a year later. :)

    Oh yes I do!!

Have just downloaded the Bridge to 10k on my phone.....not because I want to run 10k but because I found that once I finished the c25k I lost my focus somewhat. It became easier to slack off when I didn't have a goal.

So a couple of rest days now, and then off I go again:D

Are the finishing times posted online similar to the way the Adidas Race series are?

I'm thinking about entering a 5K race in December and would like to get a feel for the times that others are doing and where I might slot in (at the back) :o

bear in mind I was aiming for between 28-29 based on what I was running in training runs and did 26 something - so everyone has been saying all along its a fast course, they were not lying clearly :)

Dont worry about the times other people do or are doing [I know I was stressed about it, just like you], just head out and run your own race and do your best and you will be grand.

The Rathfarnham times are online here

You should look into the Jingle bells 5k in December. The results from last year are at the link, so you can see where you'd fit in.

I guarantee you, you will surprise yourself. Times and distances you never thought possible, can happen. Keep plugging away at your runs, increasing your distance slightly.

Best of luck - you might condsider starting up a training log on the site, it definitely helps with focusing yourself. :)

    Great fast race.
This was my comeback after 2 months of injury after injury.
I hit the wall at the 4k and had to slow it down big time. Really shows how much my stamina suffered after 2 month of minimal training.

    Happy with 21.07 though.

Anyone fancy swapping a Medium t-shirt for a Large?

They are quite tight, But I suppose they are compression tops. My Large feels like an XS . Felf very warm in it, might come in handy in the winter.
