I remember making my own cheat for Renegade on the Amstrad CPC 464 using a Multiface 2 interface plugged into the parallel port.A quick push of one of the buttons and I had the Renegade code in front of me.Finally, after weeks of trying I managed to increase my lives. :) God that was sweet.

One of the creatures games on the C64 had a cheat that would activate when on a certain part of the title screen you licked your finger and ran it along controller port 2.

The Sonic , same as OP would have been mine.

Some memorable ones that I constantly used were

    - IGOTPINK8CIDBOOTSON for Alient Trilogy :P
    - operation cwal and show me the money for Starcraft :)

Also had a Game Genie for the Megadrive,

I've not used cheats since the PS2...except for GTA games, I cheat on every single GTA game without fail...health/weapons/armor all the way :)

Yes, Gremlins 2 on the NES... 1990. I've been 'cheating' in games for 20 years now.

Midnight Resistance on the C64, you had to push all the buttons on the keyboard at once for unlimited lives.
Handier using a book to squash them all !:D

I can't remember any of the old C64 cheats, but I would've got them from magazines or sometimes they came printed on the manual. On a slightly related note, who else wants one of these?

I can remember 3shreddedwheat as the cheat for (I think) the super squad of players in Sensible Soccer on the Amiga.

Also, Impule9 for all weapons in Quake :D

I was trying to think of the name of that show the other night. All I could remember was the blonde spikey haired woman off it and the data burst.

Xenon 2. Invulnerability. F7 at startup. Then 'I' in-game. Very difficult game without it.

    BIG DADDY

Haha, those were the days, Age of Empires ftw.

No clipping in Doom used to be a good laugh. As for consoles i think its actually Sonic again.

Probably a C64 cheat. Anyone remember warm resetting the C64 with a bent paperclip? You connected the 1st and 3rd strips on the expansion port. The machine would reset back to the C64 BASIC screen, and you do a POKE to change a value in the game, and a SYS command to get back into the game.

Man that's a long time ago now. I'm old.
Oh yeah, old school :) I managed to get an Action Replay cartridge from a friend in England and had hours of fun inputting all the POKE codes into my favourite games :)

    And not to forget idspispopd.

Yes, it was "-goobers" or "-next" in the command line for wolf3d (depending on version). Then something like CTRL+Shift+Backspace (or alt or enter or some combination like that), iirc. Then Tab+letter for various codes.

Yeah. I still remember most of the cheats for that. It was an extremely difficult game, even on the low levels of difficulty, so the cheats were well used.
