Serial Ata Hard Drive Died - Can I use IDE Drive

Hi Guys, the c drive (160GB) on my pc gave up the ghost today and i have a good (500GB) ide drive from a external enclousure, but can i connect this to the sata cable in pc via a converter cable? i could take out the cdrw and use its ide cable for the harddrive but would be lost without the cd drive to be honest. anyone…

Cable length permitting you should be able to run two IDE devices off a single IDE cable once one is designated as a master device and the other a slave device, set using jumpers switches at the back of the devices.

Alternatively adapters like this are available for the job.
