Weak Handshakes

What the f*ck is up them?

I went to meet a new client today & offered a handshake, as I always do in such circumstances, only to be met with a handshake weaker than a 20 day old piece of lettuce.

I took an instant dislike to the man. To be honset, I'd prefer a handcrusher.

I think they should teach people how to shake hands properly in school - it's a social faux pas not to know how to shake hands like a normal person.

    I'm the same.

I'm instantly suspicious of someone with a weak handshake.

    Amen to that !!

aw no handcrushers are just as bad. You can tell that somebody just said to them in their early life: "a man is judged by his handshake" So all they do now is give bonecrushers.

You need to feel and match the other person's grip. That's how its done!

Ooh i hate that too. Put a bit of effort into it ffs. Specially when they've just offered their hand, why bother in the first place if they're not gonna even make an attempt at it.

I think handshakes are a really weird custom, I wonder where and why they originated.

Edit - intermagoogle, here i come.

Generally think of them as insincere people.

Maybe he simply didn't want to touch you because of your scruffy appearance?

    Were your hands clean?

There's an episode of King of the Hill where Hank meets George Bush who greets Hank with a limp handshake, needless to say Hank is not impressed and loses all respect for Bush and rightly so.

    Weak handshakers are untrustworthy cretins.

I generally match the other person's handshake but if I am self-concious about sweaty palms then I kind of give a weaker shake. *hangs head in shame*

So meet a weak handshake with a weak one.. Don't think so.

I hate when you go in for a firm handshake and the other person clamps down on your fingertips. It's palm to palm or don't bother.

I think it originated in older times to show someone you didn't have a weapon/were going to stab/club them.

I hate a weak handshake aswell, but when someone grabs your fingers instead of a shaking your hand I want to punch them. Its a stupid dominance ploy.

There's a good article on it here; http://soc302.tripod.com/soc_302rocks/id8.html

I skimmed it & it originated from 2 Arabs kissing in the desert, or something like that.

    What about the "weak-handshake-but-slow-and-ticklish-pull-away" one.

    They're the worst.

But also, you know what they say about people with limp handshakes...

Oh yeah - the finger shake. That's even more f*cked up.

Its a very strange thing, limp almost lifeless handshake...similar to a fish...

    like this

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if two limp handshakers were to shake hands

I always give a good hand shake - both hands if needed!!!

I hate it when strong/tall/big men gave you a really weak hand shake - not a bit of effort there.

come on people shake their hands a bit more - wildly if you must....!

I'd imagine Enda Kenny has a weak handshake :(

AKA the pussy willow, it's weak and saggy as hell, has no strength or confidence at all.

My first employer told me that I got the job because I had a strong handshake. Years later I use it to help judge first impressions. Not always but often it is a good indicator.

Yeah, agreed. Weak handshakes just make you think 'not worth my time.'

You will always have more respect for people who have a firm handshake!

Some people just don't know that people take offense to limp handshakes, so they don't know they're in the wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,556 ✭✭✭✭AckwelFoley

    I respect a strong handshake

I always watch people after they shake hands, they subconsiously wipe their hand discreatly after it within 20 second.

    Watch for it next time.
