    DJ Rush - An introduction...

    DJ Rush draws on his varied taste in music from contemporary Brazilian Jazz, and rare disco to The Beatles to take you on a tour of the deep side of reality, mind and soul through his vision of rhythmic percussive style. Rush gives recordings physical and mindpuzzling energy. The 6'6" giants' open minded attitude to life is: Take me for what I am or don't take me at all. Born in Chicago [USA], he grew up on the South Side and started to party at a very young age, immediately picking up on the fever of the music. He would attend clubs like The Ringzone, Playground, The Candystore and The Music Box. Before he began playing gigs in Chicago, he started making tracks in his bedroom with his friends' sinsonic drums. In Rushs' own words, "It's always important and interesting to make music according to your feelings and experiences" which is exactly what he does with The Energy EP. He likes to play with voices and percussion [his percussion is both wicked and legendary] in his many releases.

    Throughout the years DJ Rush has committed himself to the art of rhythm & drums. Born in the big city of Chicago, his music is heard throughout the world, including such famous tunes as Spitball, I Love You, and Mutha ****ing Bass. Although much of Rush's work is used for many mix compilations, some of his most famous moments have come from his live performances. In 1989 Rush had his first residency in a club called the Reactor in Chicago playing 70's disco for a crowd of 800, including 10 hour non-stop sets for party kids. He then continued to play for the famous Medusa club, Power House, Music Box, and Warehouse. Quickly becoming a central figure in Chicago's house scene, Rush's uniqueness and individuality has always been portrayed in his productions and djing. "Not letting the music control me, but letting the music guide me."

    Surgeon - An introduction...

    Birmingham techno artist Anthony Child has rapidly built a solid and, to a certain extent, innovative catalog of minimal dancefloor techno since his Surgeon releases began appearing in 1991. Compared favorably with Detroit original Jeff Mills from his earliest Downwards singles on forward, Child's tracks have been a mainstay in the popular Motor City DJ's sets. Although Surgeon releases have worked an increasing affectation for acid and trance, an economy of sound and basic hardness combine his and Mills' sound. A noted and increasingly popular DJ himself, Child grokked his skills from hip-hop and electro jocks , filling out his style with a driving toughness and appreciation for rapid cutting and flipping. Surgeon's entry into production was also noteworthy; urged on by producer Mick Harris [Child is a fan of Harris' Scorn project], the former Napalm Death drummer locked Child in his tiny studio, imploring him to "go mad." The result, the self-titled debut EP, was released on Downwards, and was instantly hailed as some of the highest quality U.K. techno of its time. Releases for Soma, Blueprint, Ideal Trax, and the ultra-exclusive Tresor label followed, with the debut LP, Basic Tonal Vocabulary, appearing on Tresor in 1997. Balance followed in 1998, as did Force & Form in 1999.

    More recent additions to his repertoire include releases on his Counterbalance imprint as well as collaborations with Regis as British Murder Boys, resulting in tracks which take a tone far darker, denser, and more industrial than those from his Tresor years.

    Equally influenced by early electro-pop innovators like Tomita and YMO, experimental groups like Can, Faust, and Suicide, and the tough grit of American electro and techno [Robert Hood, Hashim], Surgeon's mash-up is both straightforward and subtly experimental. Further influences from Coil, Psychic TV, and Whitehouse in recent works and DJ appearances do not go unnoticed.

    2562 - An introduction...

    2562 is Dave Huismans. This project is characterized by a post-garage skippiness, with rolling bass and hyper-edited snares learned from broken beat, a sense of space and echo learned from dub, and a devastating 4x4 anchorage and attention to detail from techno old and new. The result is more than the sum of its parts, an incredibly fulsome yet lean, natural-sounding, dancefloor-wrecking hybrid that’s found favour not only among dubstep heads but anyone drawn to fresh and innovative club music.

    Huismans has also made some rather kick-ass bruk tunes under the name Dogdaze. That project is now retired, but he continues to turn out incredible deep house and techno confections under the name A Made Up Sound.

    Jubei - An introduction...

    Jubei was the name on the lips of almost every top-flight drum & bass DJ in 2009. Whether it’s his solo productions, his work as a member of Code 3 [with SP:MC and Dakuan] or collaborations with the likes of Breakage, Alix Perez, Rockwell, Phobia, Icicle, Ulterior Motive, Vicious Circle, Cern, SPY, Lenzman, Logistics and Fierce, his music features heavily in the sets of those in the know.

    Jubei’s first home, MC GQ’s Emcee Recordings released his 2006 debut ‘Still There’ and ‘Harvester’, a pair of collaborations with Breakage that paved the way for another co-write, ‘The Struggle’ this time alongside Sabre for Breakage and Equinox’s Scientific Wax.

    A move to Newcastle brought forth a kinship with Phobia that has delivered a wealth of releases for the likes of Renegade Hardware and given birth to the Coded Music label whose epic first release, ‘Guillotine’ saw Breakage back in the fold on remix duties.

    Drum & Bass pioneer Goldie recently enlisted Jubei to help engineer his orchestral piece 'Sine Tempus' for the BBC Proms and ‘Classic Goldie’ TV show and in the process signed a debut EP to his own Metalheadz label. Already in the pipeline are releases for DJ Friction’s Shogun Audio, Doc Scott’s 31 Records, dBridge’s Exit and Kasra’s Critical Music plus more for Metalheadz.

    As a DJ, Jubei was a resident at Newcastle’s infamous Turbulence and regularly plays drum & bass institutions such as Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware and Fabric in London, Bristol's Dissident, Cambridges Spoonfed, StarWarz in Ghent and further flung destinations including Japan.
