    Hi all,

I am just inquiring as to whether anyone here would know of someone who teaches German folk dance or who could demonstrate such.

I am helping out with a transition year German Project and the students are crazy to learn some traditional dance.

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

Puh ...German folk dancing (the genuine article) is very much a dying art form.

First off, there never was such a thing as a "German" dance, only regional traditional varieties in some small pockets of tradition that never became known beyond their (usually very small) local boundaries.
Secondly, people who still practice these dances are few and far between even within those pockets.

So ...good luck in your quest, but don't be disappointed if you don't get an answer here.

I think that folk dancing is very much alive in Bavaria, and that Bavaria isn't exactly a small pocket of tradition ;)

But even in the North of Germany there are "Volkstanzgruppen". More in the rural areas, though.

Oh, and not to forget the Suebians:

    They even sing!

your best bet is the Waltz:D it did i believe start off as a folk dance and your sure to find people able to do it lol
as for other ones: you're sure to find some videos on youtube but as to finding people able to demonstrate them to your class....

Thank you all for your replies and the links! I appreciate it.

I really was starting from a blank canvas so this will all help. The Waltz is definitely a good idea which would be much easier to get demonstrated and taught. Thanks for that suggestion!
