Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

what do you mean by upgraded? there's usually a dial for doing that.

The OP probably means cracked with a third party firmware upgrade.

I remember the 300D's firmware could be altered to be essentially the same as a 10D, and something about the G9 or G10, but I haven't heard anything else in recent years.

WRT the OP though, what do you mean by 'upgraded' ? Performance at different ISO levels is as much a function of the physical attributes of the sensor as anything else, not much you can upgrade there without swapping out the sensor. If the OP is just talking about being able to select higher ISO settings than currently allowed then yeah, I guess there might be some firmware hack for that, but the manufacturer generally sets an upper limit on the selectable ISO values for a reason ...

    Helps sell more cameras... :)

Isn't incamera software also used to reduce noise?

There's a custom function on the 40D menu to expand the highest ISO from 1600 to 3200. Perhaps this is what the OP is referring to.

I believe there was a hacked firmware available for the 400D that expanded the ISO range to ISO 3200, allowed the ISO to be set in thirds of a stop increments, and enabled spot metering.

    A quick Google reveals this.

I think there have also been hacks for the 40D that allow video to be written to the CF card and a hack for the 300D that enabled the functions available in the 10D, including an increased ISO range.

I assume the increased ISO is a result of a bigger voltage amplification in the A/D converter. It'll have a poor signal/noise ratio, but it might be better than underexposing and trying to correct in post.

I have a 500d with a max ISO of 3200, is there a firmware hack to push the ISO up? Sorry about been unclear.

Highly unlikely, unless you just want grain in your images.

No hacking is required. Just enable extended ISO in the menu. This
allows you to select ISO 6400 and 12800.
