Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I should've cycled today :(

I hate that I can't even live up to my own promises to myself about going out for a cycle when I got home from work due to not cycling the commute.

I thought it'd be the perfect evening to make up for not cycling the 10m TT the other night.

As penance I'll have to do it tomorrow or Sunday in the rain.

    I hate penance :(

Today, I had my black Carrera Vulcan mountain bike stolen, at around 3p.m at Mountjoy Square South in Dublin. I reported it to the Gardai today, and the scumbag who stole it was caught on CCTV, and there was a fair number of witnesses around. Do you reckon I could recover this bike any time?

If you see a bike in Dublin area that resembles this image, please send me a PM.
Carrera Vulcan bike link and specs

Are you not angry someone took your bike? It's not much of a whinge.

Me? I absolutely hate when some little scumbag steals a bike!

I am also mildly annoyed by posts ending up in the wrong area.

OK – that’s it. Whingeing over – Dirk has come top of our league of whingers with 11 posts, and Lumen is in second place with 9 – no surprises with those two I guess. Also taking their places on the podium in equal 3rd place are Ednwireland and Raam. You guys sure do know how to whinge. Hopefully you’re all over it now, and we can look forward to some more positive posts from all of you.

Thanks to all for contributing in the spirit intended (well, I guess there were a few posters who struggled with the concept of reading the rules first)

Next Friday our new poet laureate manwithaplan will be introducing a special thread where you will be able to share your little cycling ditties...

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,657 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

It's back, but not for long. Last year was an endurance event, this year it's a sprint. This thread will remain open until 2pm, then you can all get back to work (I, in the meantime, have taken the day off and will be watching the cricket on TV...)

Just a reminder of the ground rules from the OP:

    1. You are not allowed to disagree with a posted whinge.
    2. Get your point across – debating on the “merits” of particular whinges is not allowed. For example, if someone says they hate Clif bars, that’s fine. If someone follows up with “so do I” then that’s fine also, but if someone then says “why?” that’s not a whinge, and will be deleted.
    3. Normal Boards and Cycling Forum rules apply (except for the relentless negativity one!)
    4. Whinges must be cycling related – “Clif Bars are vastly overpriced” is fine, but “have you seen the price of eggs?” is not
    5. Do not whinge about specific individuals – “Gavin, show us your training log” or “I think Beasty’s training log posts are crap, and too long” are not acceptable. “I hate helmet threads” is though.
    6. Persistent offenders of these rules can expect to incur infractions

I completely hate my white bike. But its not the bikes fault, its the country. We live in a pile of sh1te country for weather. Anyone who owns a white bike and cycles it in this country is an idiot.
While I am on the topic of weather, I met a friend for a few GandT's a few nights back and we ended up talking about the weather. He reckons that with the Gulf Stream moving south, that we are finally getting a glimpse over the past four years of the type of weather that countries with similar Latitude get. In a few years time we wont have to worry about whute bikes, it will be like we are living in Greenland.

All jumpers, shirts and tee shirts should have back pockets. I swear I got out of the car last weekend and went to put the car keys in my back pocket that wasnt there. I've also been known to drink a bottle of beer using the side of my mouth.

I hate having a Garmin on the bike showing my average speed, so in the last 30km, when I should be enjoying it and cooling down, I'm instead hammering it home to pointlessly nudge 29.7 up to 30.0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,200 ✭✭✭manwithaplan

I hate the long haired lunatic cyclist I regularly encounter on my commute. I am happy tootling into work or home and he comes by me out of the saddle and looks at me as he goes past. I can't resist the bait and have to take him on. I'm faster than him but not by much so I am wrecked on arrival.

Actually, I've just realised that it's myself I hate.

While I dont particularly enjoy cycling on my own all of the time I hate cycling in organised groups, I hate pacelines.
I find chaos far more preferrable. A big marauding group driving up the road. No one calling holes etc. Followed by a descent at lunatic speed with wreckless acorss the road cycling, taking corners on the opposite side of the road.
You need a bit of madness in your life.

I don't mind quite so much the many more times it says 25.something...

I hate that 30kph isn't my average very often then. OK, actually, not often at all.

I hate the fact that there's a constituency of cyclists appear to be pathologically obsessed with other cyclists waving at them. Some random psycho shouted "ignornant b*****d" at a friend of mine last week because he omitted to wave.

I'd say it's psycho's fault for overcommitting. Never commit to a big grin and a goofy wave. It'll only be a larger kick in the teeth when the acknowledgement is not forthcoming. Limiting yourself to a languid finger off the bars and an imperceptible nod makes rejection a lot easier to take.

I hate those clowns who always moan about the weather and not being able to go for cycle despite the fact I haven't seen rain on a cycle in three months. I also hate that beginners come do some fantastic training over the summer but as soon as the weather drops below 15 they hang up their bikes, HTFU. I also hate the fact that the weather never really took off this year and I'm only gently tanned and I'll be pasty white again by October. I also hate pensioners and triathletes over taking me on climbs, that one really annoys me.

I hate the little b0ll1x in his banger of a car who told me to get off the road yesterday. At the next lights I asked his passenger if he had a full licence. He said didn't. Ditto for the driver. The car had L plates displayed.
One of us was not entitled to be on the road alright, and it wasn't me

I hate that little fcuking hill to get back into Enniskerry after a long cycle when I really don't want to see any more hills. I really hate myself for taking the fcuking Devil's elbow up to Johnnie Foxes to avoid same hateful hill.

I firmly believe Enniskerry should either be bypassed, or preferably, levelled. Even if it probably has won more twee towns award than anywhere else in wickla. Hate the place.

Speaking of hills, I hate valleys, because at the end of them tends to be hills. I think they should use the hills to fill the valleys, and make the country completely flat, apart from the camber on the roads required to drain the water off...
