Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it ok to drink tap water here?

It might be a stupid question but I googled it and it said that some weird chemical was found in it a few days ago.

Sorry I just moved back today:D

Yup it's officially safe to drink now.

Some people still prefer to drink bottled water as there was also a scare about there being high levels of lead in the water in some parts of the city. Mervue, Ballybane and Shantalla were mentioned if I recall correctly. I'm open to correction there. If you're living in a post 1970s build house it seems you should be ok in those areas though. The reality is that no matter where you are in Ireland older houses probably have some lead piping so the problem is most likely countrywide.

It was in a paper recently, can't remember which, that Irish people who don't drink the flourinated water we get in the tap here had particularly bad problems with tooth decay so it seems a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

As far as the local authorities are concerned though it's safe to drink and considering that there is a recession here I'd say most people are drinking it.

You're nickname has "water scandal victim" written all over it though. Maybe you ought to take extra care. :D

The metal contaminant in the water was lead from lead pipes.

    Mercury is a liquid...

Tap water anywhere isn't always going to be 100% clean. I'd stick to bottled water myself.

The water in Galway city is absolutely perfect and, more importantly, completely harmless.
After all the trouble over the last few years (Crypto, lead, etc) all the new gear that the Council got pretty much ensures that it's the best quality tap water in the country.

Where are you living? I've lived in a few different places in the city and i can't stand the taste of the water anywhere i've been
