Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys

    Just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of road cycling annual agenda. For example, do people ride aluminium frames till about March, when to start building up distances or do you carry on through the winter or use gym through winter, when do sportifs generally start etc...

    I don't usually ride sportifs or races or anything (more interested in touring) so I might not be the best person to answer this but I'll give it a go.
    Your annual training schedule depends on your goals. For instance, last year I had nothing as regards races or big tours and I beside commuting and basic commuting I pretty much took a break from cycle over much of the winter when the weather closed in.
    This year however I'm planning on starting racing when the season begins again (I think around March) so apart from the odd rest week to keep from burning out I'd hope to be doing 400km + a week over the winter and into next summer.
    A lot of people would ease off a bit over the winter and just do enough to stay on form (I'd like to do this but I have to build some form first) and then build up as racing season hoves into view but it all depends on your priorities and where you have to get to fitness wise.
    As regards switching to the gym through the winter, it's better than nothing and certainly useful for building up core muscle strength but the more time on the bike the better when it comes to building up cycling performance (a turbo trainer is an option if you want to avoid the bad weather).
