Caterpillar lookalike - Insect Identification Please?

Can anyone identify this insect please!
Location: Galway, Ireland
Time of year: September
Habitat: Garden
Time: Evening
Legs: 3 pairs
Wings: No wings
No antennae
Size: approx 1-1.5cm in length
Colouration: Blue with orange/yellow spots on abdomen.
Distinguishing characteristics: From above it looks like a caterpillar
Possibly in mid-metamorphoses?
