Apple jelly bag

It always happens at this time of year - the apple jelly bag - a musln hood through which you strain the cooked apple mush to get the juice that makes the jelly - goes missing.

Inevitably I've put it away somewhere safe and said "Aha, I'll be able to find you next year" (this year, it was in the top drawer of the wardrobe in my bedroom), and then when the time comes things have changed and it gets moved (this year, I got a larger Ikea wardrobe that fits the space - anyone want to buy a pine wardrobe with a bevelled mirror, perfect for a child's room or a guest room?

I now have a batch of apples simmering away all last night in the slow cooker, and nothing to strain them through. I could use a pillowslip, but the muslin works better because it's not as finely woven. Anyone know anywhere that sells the bags ready made?

A beer/wine homebrew stockist might have it. Some healthshops sell homebrew stuff like country cellar in dun laoghaire and one in stillorgan shopping centre.

    There is a homebrew forum

    This place has them

Hm. Thanks for the home brew thought, but so far no luck. I found a couple listed for Dublin and phoned them. The Health Shop in Dundrum Town Centre said they no longer do home brew supplies. Grape 'n' Grain said they only do deliveries via their website for €40 or more plus delivery charge (eeep!) in the Dublin area. Noobru are listed with addresses in Rathmines and Galway, but neither the mobile number nor an email got a reply.

Drumming my fingers on the edge of the desk here, while swimming in the scent of cooking apples...

I think you can buy muslin by the metre in Hickeys fabric shops.

I'm nearly 100% sure I saw some jelly bags in The Anvil in Bray the other day. It's a bit of an odd kind of shop but does quite a good range of cookware and stuff, and can be found right on Bray Main Street ...

EDIT: See http://www.anvil.ie/catalog/index.php?cPath=108 bottom left corner. Is that what you're looking for?

It is, though it looks a lot less permeable than my own precious but unfindable muslin bag, unfortunately. Waiting for My Beer and Wine in Rathmines to unpack a delivery and see if it includes strainer bags; if not, I'll phone The Anvil.

Try Stock ,or Kitchen Compliments -shops in Dublin. Hope you add cloves to your apple jelly- my elderly mother has a quaint contraption with ancient muslin suspended in the garage. There is nothing like the aroma..

    Found my own bag.

Nope, no cloves here - straight apple flavour, nothing more.
