Ali Carter won the Shanghai Masters and the first ranking event of the new season by beating Jamie Burnett 10-7 today.
The win lifts Carter up to second in the rankings overtaking world champion Neil Robertson while Burnetts first ranking final appearance lifts him to 29th.

The next event is the new addition to the calendar The World Open and that begins next sat, coverage is on the BBC.
This should make for great viewing as the matches are best of 5 and an open unseeded draw is held for each round. Also a number of the compeditors have qualified through events held in snooker clubs worldwide so we are bound to see some new faces.:)
