3 or 4 years ago, a girl, wearing headphones, was running about 100m ahead of me, around the 11.5M mark. Running in the middle of the road, she had to be pulled off the centre by another runner, to allow an ambulance, c/w siren blaring, to pass. To this day I can't figure it out sirens are damn loud. What was she listening to? 1812 Overture?? At full blast..........???

    To answer the last poster
    No gels
Water: From recollection - Manned tables at 5, 8, 12. Usually cups.

    Don't worry.....just enjoy!

This is one of my favourite races.....haven't missed it since it was revived in 1990 (1989??)
    Plan to, thanks!

    Wow what a race!
was my first race and loved it!
Gotta say i thought the stewards were absolutley brilliant ! fair play to them for giving up their time and doing such a great job keeping cars back making sure you got water and giving great encouragment they were first class.
I Sail alot a sport which also requires people helping out in their spare time so ive only that to compare it to but i thought they were brilliant cant praise them enough
    Thanks stewards

its a great race....so many people out supporting, lots of water supplies in bottles with sports caps, passed an orange station at one stage also(think it was a family thing!) and there was a few buckets of jelly beans also towards the end....stewards were very good also, very supportive.....would love to do it again., highly recommended!!!

Had a great time at the race today, organisation was top notch. Wasn't quite the confidence boost I was hoping for before Dublin, but still very glad I did it. Only dodgy moment for me was nearly running into a kid at the tight bit near the finish, but no way I was losing a sprint finish with HM ;)

Will definitely be back for this race again... Now if only this security queue in Cork airport would move faster...

I think they should have done more to keep the cars off the last stretch for the finish. I seen cars swinging around and nearly hitting runners, cars stopping in the middle of the road holding up runners who had no where to get past the car with only 30 metres left to the finish. One driver was getting so angry with a runner, he drove right up behind him. Don't know how he didn't hit him.

First male came in about 1:16:40, with a four minute gap before second place came in. First female came in at just under 1:34 i think.

Weather was great for the day. Seemed like ideal running conditions. Unfortunately, my lift got messed up to and I arrived too late to register. One of the stewards told me not to worry, just head for the start line and run without a number. I thought better of it and declined, because it wouldn't have been right and I would most likely be lynched on this forum too,

Instead, We headed to the finish line and waited for the runners to come through. Pity I didn't have a camera. Got to see chinguetti and Condo131 finish and cheered on the sprint between Xebec and Hunnymonster.

Next year I'll book a room in the Montenotte hotel to make sure I'll be at registration on time.;)

I realise that you were caught for the extra tenner. However, even at €20, where would you be going. A quality 15 mile race, well marked, well stewarded, food afterwards AND you get a T-shirt and a goodie bag!

Think of all the races cropping up all over the country, where the entry fee is €40/50/60/whatever.

...............and, if you made the entry cut off date, it was only €10!

Value for money! Way to go Cork BHAA!!!

After reading both yourself's & the 'Running in Cork' site's enthusiam for this race, I decided to give it a go on Sat evening. Was a bit worried it was too soon after the Berlin marathon last weekend but really glad I did now. Weather was just about perfect, plenty of stewarding & water points (in bottles no less!).

Was getting a bit on the tired side going the final hill into Cobh but the runner in front of me turned out to be a fantastic motivator as he encouraged both myself & a guy we passed who was walking to push on. Certainly did the trick for me as I managed to sprint (for me :) ) to the finish for the last downhill stretch. I thanked him afterwards & he said no problem but that I should do the same for someone next time round. Stupidly forgot to ask his name so just in case he reads this, much obliged!

Raced today too - top class event. Great marshalling, good vibes from the stewards, excellent water stations, superb traffic management on the roundabouts, a goody bag with T-shirt and a major feed in the community hall afterwards. Incredible.

For €10 entry fee you just cannot find fault with this race. Eoin Ryan, if you're reading, this is how a race is done.

I went off a bit too fast and paid for that in the last two miles but still knocked 20 seconds off last year's time. Was delighted to break 1:30 for the HM too. No DCM this year so feet up for me now for a few weeks

Couldn't agree more. Loved this race. Bit worried that i pushed too hard though, and i am doing DCM... knocked 7 minutes off last year's time, couldn't imagine doing another 11 miles at that pace for the marathon thogh, so need to think carefully about pacing for that!

Agree with all the above, what a great day as well. Great going into the last 5 down by the harbour. Good friendly atmosphere on the course, got a pace and great confidence boost for DCM...only cribs was some dodgy drivers near finish line and no sign of a baggage man near start line (he was staying in Montenotti only)

For anyone who is thinking of doing this in future, do it.

Great value for 10 euro. 5 water stops, organe stop and jelly stop, well marshalled and friendly to boot, decent goody bag, great route, fab weather, mile markers, i could go on.

Only hairy bit was the finish where a car tried to force me and the runners ahead into the crowd as they didn't seem to notice the runners but managed to pick up enough speed to pass the car before the line (yeah me!). Crossed in 1.49.55 on my clock but 1.50.01 on the line clock. Legs a bit tired after the drive back to Dublin but no running for me now for a few days as away with work. Ran besides a guy who did 3.22 in Dublin last year so all going well 3.30 is on for 3 weeks time.

Met seanynova at registration and also as he ran out from the finish, xebec, wally runs, Condo, HM and Aimman who just missed registration.

And i also passed over the 1,000 mile mark for 2010. :D

I fear the only way you'll see me in Dublin seany is if you're running back the road or holding a stool in a pub somewhere for me;). 2.55/3.00 is a savage time in my eyes.

Mind those legs and good running.

We should have organised a boards meet-up in the community centre afterwards given the number of people on here who ran the race!

    Saw some pics posted here.

lovely morning out. I enjoyed the run and the weather was absolutely fantastic. I also loved seeing the community involvement (the boy with the cut up oranges just after belvelly was a real treat). Thanks to all the marshalls. I was well and truely flattened in the sprint finish with Xebec. OK, he has almost 12 years on my but I'll be back for a rematch :-)

I had my bag of tayto in front of the tv last night. Why is it that goodie bag crisps always taste soo much better than bags you buy in the shop.

Very very well organised and astonishing value for 10 euro.

To the organisers - please put the bagage drop point at the start line of the race and not in the hotel 1 mile away. Standing around the start line for 30 minutes half naked is not pleasant. The morning was quite cool.

And the 1 mile steep uphill walk to collect the bags afterwards wasnt too pleasant either.

    Other than that - brilliant.

    +1.
Where would you be going! I hope some of the 'high ticket' entry races take note .....and those entering those races too. There plenty of value to be had in lots of these races.....and tht's understating it!

+1. This was a no brainer. Traffic movement around the Hotel drop-off was, and always is, chaotic. I tried to ring some of the organisers, early yesterday morning, to see if there was a bag drop at the start [but, apparently, there was no network coverage in Cork early yesterday???]

1 Mile! - you must have taken the scenic route - it was just under 500m, but that is some bitch of a hill. We warmed-down over another route (2 miles) and the hill wasn't as bad.

Yeah, I was racing it, and was using the HM time as a guide for Dublin. Yeah, pretty confident going into it. Couple of lessons learned: 1 I didn't taper enough 2. I'd done a lot of heavy manual work early in the week and thought I'd recover in time - I didn't. 3. Left myself short of time at the start, due to the hike up and back to the bag-drop, so didn't do any stretching at all before the start.:eek::eek:

Still I'm pretty happy, but need to rest up (whatever that is! ) over the next few weeks. Pretty damn sore today, particularly in the arms.

First 4 miles were pretty OK, but a bit slow, based on my target pace of 7:00/7:10. They were 6:55, 7:12, 7:10 and 7:17. After that I got into a good rhythm and, apart from 14 (7:28) all the remaining miles were all between 6:52 and 7:06, averaging 6:59 (excluding mile 14). I even managed to hit my best 7, 10 and HM times in several years during that stretch. 10 in 70:39, HM in 1:32:19 and 1:46:03 at the finish.

This will be my 20th Marathon and I really can't say I've ever approached any "with confidence" - I'd say "more with respect". I still have a bit of work to do: Managing my taper, working on stretching .....mainly not overdoing it, plus I really need to recover from yesterday.

On the other hand, just over two years ago, I thought I'd never run again, so to be in this position is absolutely exhiliarating! Roll on Dublin!...and pray for a good day!

By the way, if anyone here would like be the first to donate to my Cancer Survivor pages (Irish Cancer Society & Cork ARC), please go ahead!

It was indeed! Left you after about 4 miles but somehow you finished ahead of me  Shows how poor my pacing was on the day!

Oh, and speaking of pacing, I think I've figured out how Alan O'Shea wins all these races - go out and run 20s per mile fast than everyone else :pac: See the gap after just one mile?! It's huge!

I'm not in the know, but hopefully they'll be up over the w/e.

The main problem with the BHAA results processing is sorting out BHAA teams. Add to that the fact that there was also an club category (as in AAI (?)/whatever), to make processing even more complex...and then many BHAA members will have entered under as a club member, rather than BHAA. Glad I'm not sorting those results! :D

The results will go up on the Cork BHAA website when ready.
