Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My mothers laptop keeps getting this annoying message with the result web pages won't load or if they do the internet is slow.

My own laptop doesn't get this message and the net speed is grand.
I'v googled this problem and have tried a dns flush from the command button.

It's a Toshiba laptop, windows 7 i don't know if that info. is relevant?
I'm not very techy and need help. I'm tearing what little hair i have out!

    Any advice is welcome, Thanks.

try using open DNS, log into your router and for the DNS settings use:

    208.67.222.222
    and
    208.67.220.220

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

It's odd that sometimes it works and sometimes doesn't, especially when another conputer on the same network isn't having any problems.

What provider is your broadband with?

What make/model of router do you have?

Are you connecting via wireless or ethernet cable?

Can you post the IP settings from your mothers laptop? To do this, open the Start Menu. In the Start Menu search box area type 'cmd' and press <Enter>. This will bring up a black screen with with a flashing cursor. Then type 'ipconfig /all' without the quotation marks and press <Enter>. Post the results.

Now i havn't a clue what all that means. But the DNS error doesn't seem to happening now, fingers crossedl. Changing my DNS settings seems to have made a huge improvement but the net is kind of hanging abit. HMM!

With Perlico(all internet providers are cowboys in Ireland!) Wireless, Zyxel router.
    Thanks for the help!

So you changed the DNS server settings on the router then (as opposed to on the laptop)? I always use the OpenDNS servers myself but am curious as to how the change would have fixed this particular problem given that only 1 computer was suffering. Anyway it's working - that'll do for now ;)

The general slowness may be unrelated to the DNS issue.
