Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Israel (16) are actually ranked higher than Ireland (19) in the Uefa Co-efficients, which is what will be used to seed the playoffs.

Russia just came very close to equalizing, should have scored really.

Is a Slovakia win in Russia not potentially even worse for us?

I think regardless, come the end of the group, Slovakia, Russia and ourselves will be vying for the two slots.

    Yes, completely agree.

A Slovakia win gives them a huge advantage in terms of topping the group, a draw is the best outcome imo.

I think we can beat Slovakia..at least at home anyway. They seem a well organised team, the Russians on the other hand can turn up..be great or just very ordinary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,414 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Slovakia are a huge physical team ,they will be tough to beat.

How the hell have Russia not scored in the 2nd half, they've had some lovely passing in the final 3rd and have gone close a number of times.

Stoch and Hamsik look very dangerous on the counter.

Bouncer's with good feet at the back..they will be very tough to beat indeed.

    Game over!!!

Ireland v Russia in Oct is huge now.

Slovakia have 6pts and still have 2 games against Andorra and Armenia to play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

Some win for Slovakia - dunno if this is good for Ireland. Both of these teams will be very hard to beat , the pace of their attacks could trouble us immensely especially on our left side where we are very weak with Kilbane.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 67 ✭✭Sktchr

Wow. That puts some serious pressure on Russia very early in the qualification campaign.

Didn't actually see the match? How would Ireland have fared against the Russian team that showed up today and against the Slovakian side that showed up today??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,273 ✭✭✭✭briany

Slovakia have won! That really puts the cat amongst the pigeons.

Next month, next month. But fear not.......

    wc_two.jpg

He has been reading your get well posts and wants to tell you he will play next month and he will nonchalantly neutralize the attacking prowess of Arshavin and Stoch.

well, there really aren't many easy teams in europe anymore...Time we got our act together..we need to perform with the same conviction and purpose against every team that we showed when we played France.

    I dunno either...

If Slovakia turn out to be the ones to beat...we could be in real dog-fight with Russia for 2nd :(

On the other hand, if we beat Russia next month and got good results against Slovakia H&A, and don't mess up in the other matches, we could win the group :)

But I think it's way too early to say!

Sorry if it's already been said. But Dave McKeon from the League of Ireland is reffing Sweden v San Marino tonight, thought I recognised him when they were coming out then his name popped up :).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭Bukman13

Montenegro 1 up against Bulgaria away.

Great start to their campaign if they can hold on.

Surprised any of our refs are deemed good enough for internationals...

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Why do San Marino even bother putting out a team? It's embarrassing getting hammered every game.

2-0 Sweden after 11 mins, San Marino have only had the ball twice which was at the kickoffs.

Scotland's group looks interesting. With Spain and Liechtenstein both in a 5 team group its basically a 3 team round robin for the playoff spot.

McKeon has just given Melberg a straight red. He did lunge in, but got a lot of the ball. Hard one to call, but can see that costing Sweden next month in important games.

    Macedonia 1-1 Armenia

    Almost HT
