Alternative to Killykeen?

Hi all,

I've been doing a bit of searching for a log cabin rental. Wife and I have always wanted to do it, and I'm trying to find a place to surprise her with it.

I found some (old) info about Killykeen, but that looks like a ghost town now.

Can anybody suggest some alternatives? Not necessarily in Cavan. We live in Wicklow, so any place that's not in the south east would be great. I'm looking for a place that is very peaceful, with a few hiking trails, boat rentals and that kind of stuff.

in belturbet theres a few holiday homes developments, but it wouldnt be as peaceful a retreat as trinity

if you searched for some self catering in fermanagh then you might also find what you are looking for. Thanks to british government subventions and local authorities charging rates to the citizens, parks and stately homes up there are manificient.

Even if you go to cavan, you should check out Florencecourt just across the border and the walks in the hills above it. Brilliant.

There's a log cabin or two at Crover House hotel at Lough Sheelin. I'm fairly sure they rent rowing boats there too.
Ring them and ask.

Some log cabbins at Skeagh lake (near to cootehill) but don't know much about them. Is not a lot to do around there if you are not into fishing though
