Just waiting for this wan from the Revenue.. I heard her last year saying that "Revenue would move in to companies and decide whether the business is viable or not".. They have some arrogance given that their own employer is bankrupt and yet they havent made one mandatory redundancy themselves..

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,054 ✭✭✭✭neris

revenue have to much power and no one to answer to when they fcuk up a company and put them out of business. the normal person who has very little dealings with revenue is going to get a shock when they start sending out demand letters etc for property tax. bunch of ignorant vvankers

I DO agree with what he was saying to some extent, Mike. It's like those callers on liveline who ring in to say that they that broke that they will have to consider getting rid of the Sky TV.. A lot of Irish people who would have you believe that they are in poverty always seem to have the best of TVs, designer runners, phones, iPods/Pads etc.

be nice if pat actually had someone on against the property tax on principle grounds as opposed to the affordability nonsense.

especially seeing as , ya know, thats WHY the majority of people that wont pay this are doing it.

still this is pravda were dealing with.

itll only be when 700k people dont do it that theyll approach that angle. just like with the water rates issue in the 90s.

Why does everybody think that having more women in politics is the solution to the problem.. Mary Coughlan, Mary Hanafin, Mary O'Rourke, Bev Cooper Flynn, Ivana Bacik (yet to be elected but always on the radio)...?? The woman that were elected were WORSE than the men elected if anything. The country needs to be more worried about the type of person that we elect not the sex of the person.

Venezuela must be terrible, having a hugely overpaid man taking over the airwaves for long periods of time in the afternoon, driving his own agenda...

It's all a question of priorities ... confusing needs with wants. Just because you want something doesn't mean you need it :)

    Exactly.

I dont understand how Irish people get so horny over a pretty modest property charge.

EG: In 2013 my TV lisence Tax will be almost 4 times larger than my property tax.
And still almost twice as large in 2014.

I have no problem with people sending their kids to private schools but it does stick in my craw a bit that the government subsidises them.

Kieran Allen of People Before Profit.

It says something for David Quinn's powers of persuasion that he makes Allen sound reasonable and temperate.

Ah ! , he is religious !! he must be innocent then.

    Has to be .

I dunno, I can see the point of view that people who pay tax are entitled to have their kids educated by teachers that are paid by the state, then if they can afford to send their kids to private schools that have increased facilities or a more rounded curriculum, then I've no problem with it. (I will admit to a slight bias here - I'm debating whether to put the 5-year old down for Belvo when he gets older. It would be a bit of a struggle at the current rate, but if the fees were to become a multiple of what they are, then there's no way in hell I'd be able to send him).

Thanks - I missed both the beginning and the end of the piece due to pesky colleagues asking me stuff :)

Perhaps not in Japan, this guy just said that they have an extremely high conviction rate.

It's quite sickening to listen to this, those poor girls and that poor family.

Was that David Quinn from The Iona Institute opposing the notion of fee-paying Protestant-ethos schools getting state funding because their students became Elite leaders later in life? Pat seemed to be stressing the Elite-ist angle much.

Erm, on the japanese trial item, is it usual or the standard for the passengers in japanese taxis to be recorded on video camera?

Pat's dublinese pronunciation of chimney earlier on:pac:. I think his accent is now a very long way from where it started.

Apparently it's fairly common. The cameras are for driver security.
