I have some relatives visiting in a few weeks and, of course, I get to play tour guide. I was wondering if Aras an Uachtarain was open to visitors but I can't find anything on the site. Does anyone know.

    Hiya,

aras has free tours starting from the Pheonix park visitor centre on Saturdays - between 10-2pm I think.
It's FIFS so get there earltish to book your tour.
The tour itself is actually ok - I took my folks who were visiting from Oz a few weeks ago.

If you're in the Park it's well worth taking a peek at Farmleigh. Entry is free and there is also a free guided tour.
Back in 1997 it cost £28m of your money to buy and refurbish. Seems like small change these days

Farmleigh is not where the president lives, it's where we put up foreign presidents, prime ministers, etc

And this happens less than 10 nights every year. Great value. :(

Wasn't trying to defend it, was just clarifying that it's not the Áras :)

Went on it with the missus last year.

Pretty good, but it's not that well known about.

Bus takes you from the cafe, near the ruins of the old tower on Saturdays. Guided Tour takes about 30-40 minutes, sometimes they also take in the gardens weather permitting.

    It's all free.

Given that you will be near Kilmainham, you should pay a visit to Kilmainham jail after the Aras. It is one of the best tours on the tourist trail

Thanks for that, do they take you in around the house??

Sounds very quick for a tour-I'll presume tea with Mary, President for Life is not included
