    Why is there so much gratuitous perversion in animes & mangas. Why does 13 old looking girl always have to be wearing the tightest skirt, or am I just a dirty old man?

    I've always felt that this sort of thing ruins the integrity of some otherwise excellent series.

    Then again, I wsn't exactly complaining about the gratuitous side/under boob in Gurrenn Lagann either...

    thats a bit of a generalization. i have watched many anime that has young or teenage girls in it and there is no boob or panty shots and they look normal. there are a lot of fan service heavy shows out there and you have to remember that anime comes from japan where that kind of thing is culturally accepted. it is unfair to say that all anime is like this. Fan service shows have their audience and so it will always be prevalent in anime but its not as widespread as some people think

    Anime isn't a genre. None of the stuff I watch has anything you're describing. Though I know lots do, especially Highschool of the Dead.

    Solution; Watch better anime. Then you won't get panyshots.

    A certain genre of hollywood movies only features buxom ladies often in bikinis (the likes of American Pie, Hot tub time machine etc) but I wouldn't say all hollywood movies are like that!

    I think the phenomenon in manga/anime is referred to as echi. Personally I find it ranges from hilarious to creepy but I've enjoyed Highschool of the Dead, wanton boobs n all!

    Fan-Service is certainly one of those hallmarks that you'll remember from (certain) anime and manga. Although that said, it's not at all limited to these.

    It's childish as hell, but seems to work into the humor of shows sometimes. In addition to the aforementioned 'Needless', I'd like to also mention 'Burn Up Excess' as another show that seems to be wall-to-wall fanservice (but still fun to watch).

    Although, they do sometimes take it a little too far. The likes of ChuBra showcases early/pre-teens in underwear, and although it seems to be aimed at young girls...I can't help but wonder if the likes of this are really designed to be some kind of twisted fanservice...kinda creepy.

    You're not allowed to complain about over-gratuitous panty shots until you've watched Agent Aika & Najica Blitz Tactics.

    I do believe they hold the record at 1 underwear shot every 5 seconds, OR LESS.
