I assumed it was the same as the xbox , so i got my component cable for the ps3 . Now my problem is that i cant see anything on the screen, i put back in the hdmi cable and tryed to change the display settings from ther but that still doesnt work.

Ps3 is on but when i go to the componant channel it says no signal.

i had the hdmi cable in and the componant cable but when i went to change the settings to componant from hdmi it would never change so what i went into settings , held the cursor over the componant option , plugged out the hdmi cable , pressed x and x again (blindly) switch the channel and it worked that way.
Even though i checked all the boxes for hdmi on the componant , the graphics are very bad.

Really? Is there an option to select what res your tv supports?

It should give you the option to select

    360
    480
    720p
    720i
    1080i
1080p (If your TV supports it of course)

Yeah my tv is full hdmi but the box beside the 480 was ticked and i couldnt untick it , it allowed me to tick the 1080 options as well.

Yeah that seems right ( the 480 should alsways be ticked as a default fall back output), some models of PVR won't let you record 1080p

Try selecting 1080i and see if that helps

I did , both of them.
I only got my pvr in may , no problems with it on the xbox.
